Hey, I've started piano and I was curious as to the length of time it takes a student to reach grade 1, on average?

I'm a fast learner and although piano is much harder than other instruments, I am progressing fast, and I thought that if I got the average I could roughly estimate the length of time for me to reach grade 1, am I making any sense? laugh.gif

I started from scratch and am an adult learner...I was up to pass standard after 6 months having known very little about music at all...I got 135 pass when I did eventually take the exam....My first piano lesson was begining of Feb 2004 and I have just taken my grade 2...I think I did enough to pass...Grade 3 looks more difficult and I hope to take this at Christmas time....

Master of auruls eh? No offence but you auruls is ok in Grades 1-6. In Grade 7 and 8..........it's horror! In grade 8 it's crazy, sing the LOWEST part of a 3 part phrase and sight sing the lower part while the examiner plays the upper part. Then, identify the cadence, and the last chords. Eg:iib, Ic, V ,I ...etc. Finally, tell the examiner alll u can about a piece the examiner plays. Not so easy now....*wink* dry.gif Anyway, there's some people aurul gifted but majority not. In grade 1 I got full for aurul but in Grade 7 , it's ######. Doing Grade 8 this year.

ANyway.........back to the topic. Good to know that u r keen in piano. You can get to Grade 1 very fast. May be in 1 month.U can do it since you already have some musical background. GOod luck! smile.gif Hopefully u get a dis. in G.1 piano.

Probably about six months, given your musical background and experience. I have started complete beginners (with no musical experience) in September who have done grade 1 the following June. Some children especially younger children take a bit longer.
Sometimes with second study students if they are going to be ready for grade1 between exam sessions, I let them go on to grade 2 rather than hold them back.

ive beenn playin for about 6months with a piano teacher, and im at a grade 2 standard now, well it depends on how motivated you are, and whether you are a quick learner. Dont give up! biggrin.gif
musicbox
it just depends on how much effort and practise and your understanding of music
