hello every one
i will take my four time DipABRSM in this April/May but i still can't receive my exam date.i am so hurry ar
i take my first exam in 2002,in this time i both fail in Section 1 and 2.
i got 34mark
in the second exam in 2003 i got section 2 pass but fail in section1 the total mark is 41 this time(the pass mark is 40 but need both pass in two section! so i have 41 but don't get pass =_=)
i take my third exam in 2004,this time i pass in section 1 but fail in section 2 >_< i got 38 mark.
so i will take my four exam in this year.i feel that the DipABRSM exam is so hard to pass >_<
is anyone like me that feel so hard to pass this exam?
and anyone have recive the exam date?

HI there,

Sorry to hear that through multiple attempts at the Dip and you still have not been successful. Hats off to you for the comittment and not being afraid to try again. But, honestly, from what I read in your post, it might be that you are re-trying a little too soon in the past. I hope you will be successful in April/May this time.

My students haven't received their dates yet. It should be soon. No worries.

I am sorry to hear that you have to retake your DipABRSM exam. I was under the impression that you only have to retake the part of the exam at which you didn't attain a passing mark. It would be a good idea to look into the regulations to see if that's really the case. I hope you'll do well in your upcoming exam in any case!

sorry to hear abt ur numerous failures in ur multipile attempts!

it sounds soooo weird to me that in 03, u passed section 2 and failed in section 1, whilst vice versa and even a lower mark in 04! (i thought that ur mark should have been improved in 04 since u've learnt from ur mistakes in 03!)

y did u fail in sec 2 this time round? which part (viva or QS) had u failed in?

i thought if u passed section 2 in 03, u could carry the mark for ur QS fwd n retake the recital+viva only in 04!

so which parts r u going to retake in apr/may this year?

have u changed ur recital programme in ur 3 trials? what was ur repertoire for ur 3rd trial?

btw, r u also from HK? in which mth did u take ur exam in 04? who were ur examiners?

do u also play the pno?

were u well prepared for ur exam?

<1> i fail viva in 03 so i can credit QS.
<2>i need retake recital and viva in this time~
<3>i am form HK and I aslo play piano~
<4>i did't change my recital and there are
1 Bach: prelude and fugue BWV859
2 Mozart: sonata in B falt K570
3 Brahms: rhapsody Op 79 No 2
4 Debussy: la plus que lente
<5>i take my exam in 04 in 24th april and the two examiner were man and both called"Michael"
<6>i think that this time i can do it better because i change my piano teacher after 04 exam .My new paino teacher is more sutible for me~

and i want to ask u that if i get pass this time and get clear pass or higher ,my diploma cert will print the <clear pass>or only print <pass> ?

Hello ying84,
The DipABRSM certificate will only indicate a pass or a distinction.
It's funny that both of your examiners were called Michael. The first ever male couple who got married legally in Canada were called Michael and Michael too ...

I've heard of somebody having took the DipABRSM five times in one session , i.e. 5 times between August and November in the same year - but all failed. But I've also heard of someone took the LRSM more than 10 times (over 10 years) and finally got a pass!
It is not very difficult to get a pass in DipABRSM - play fluently and securely w/ some stylistic details would do.
But be reminded that you might lose marks if your performing time is too short. Maybe you have to do some of the repeats in your programme.

I wonder how may one enter multiple times in one session?

By filling in several entry forms and specifying the preferred month, and above all - paid the fees .

My goodness, that must be why over 50% of people who take it in a session fail...

Actually the passing rate in HK is below 10% for past 4 years.

How do u know that the pass rate of all diploma exams had always been below 10% in the past 4 years (2001-4)? Who told u so?

i have read the lists of successful dip candidates in 2001-3 in HK. the no. of LRSM candidates on the list had increased from only 13 in 2002 to 28 in 2003 , i know that some of them are only teenagers!

as i can see from the increase, it seems that the chance of passing LRSM had increased from 03 onwards!

i was shocked to hear from u that sb entered himself for DipABRSM 5 times but still failed; whilst sb who entered LRSM 10+ times n finally passed! i feel vvv sorry for them . Neverthelss, they are vvv ambitious candidates!

i guess the reason y these 2 candidates failed in their multiple attempts was coz they weren't well-prepared in advance.

anyway, pls reply n answer my Qs!
