Hi folks,

just wondering if more females people plays the piano then males.
Because in my school, there's only me who plays the piano and i m a male person.I think that is because females like music more??Or what reasons??
elmo
I'm a girl but I know quite a few boys who play piano, and quite a lot of the peris/music teachers at school are male and play piano!

I disagree totally! Unless you are talking of music performed by Westlife or Boyzone! smile.gif
When I was growing up there was a stigma that certain activities were considered for Girls, e.g. Piano, Ballet, Dancing, Singing etc and other activities were considered for Boys, e.g. Football, Rugby, Model and Chess clubs etc. I don't think this is the case anymore though. The Genders seem to cross over more and more each year. Dont know if thats good or bad or just plain confusing? blink.gif

I'm still amazed that you're the only Pianist in your school!! But then I don't know how big your school is really, so I think I'll shut up now. biggrin.gif
violinandpianogurl
in my music class there are 9 girls who play the piano and only 2 boys.

In my GCSE music class there were equal-ish numbers of gilrs and boys. There was 11 of us, and I think it worked out as 6 girls and 5 boys. At AS and A-level there aren't any boys, but there's only me and my friend who take it!

female biggrin.gif

most of the pianists at school are female
Helen
In my AS class there is one post grade 8 male pianist, and one male nearly-grade 8 pianist, and then Im the only female pianist (not that it means Im any good...)

At university it seems to be about 50/50 males to females in the music societies - but then it's 60/40 male to female overall!

The Reading Music Department was more than 60% female in my time. Now, in its final year, the senior staff are 50/50 and the support staff all female.

Female, I can only think of 3 pianists I know who are male, the majority are female. But the male pianists I know are much better.

Yes, especially as in the 20 odd years I've been playing and 12 years teaching, I've very rarely met or known that many adult female piano players! Quite a few male ones though! Interesting! Maybe, the commitments of raising a family take over most females lives totally as they get older. I'd like to think, if I was female, with a family, I'd still find time to play an instrument even with kids running around me. After all, its all a question of priorities! rolleyes.gif I'd combine my practice time with their playing time and have them dancing and running around the piano in time with the music. What better musical education than that? biggrin.gif

I know about a 3 male pianiest, their my teacher students and i seen them before. ( no im not my teacher stalker laugh.gif ) but yeah,

haha...maybe it's not because there are more female than male pianists, but just that more female pianists come on the forum than males.

Maybe playing the piano or any other instrument isn't a female/male thing - maybe it's about being a parent. It's hard work, neverending and extremely difficult to have time for yourself. My children are 12,10,8 & 6. The 3 older ones each play piano & violin or flute. There's orchestras, piano lessons, music practise & heaven knows what else to fit in. And they also need fed, reasonably clean clothes & a reasonably clean house to live in. Add to that living in a remote rural area with no public transport.
My time for playing usually comes late at night when they're in bed - fortunately we don't have close neighbours. But that isn't an ideal time as i'm tired.
I agree to a certain extent it is a question of priorities ( in my case practise before sleep), but it's also about responsibilities - I don't think saying to children look after yourselves while Mum plays for hours on the piano or whatever is something that a responsible parent does.

Nevertheless,
I think male and female should be equal when it comes to the piano. biggrin.gif

I can tell you it is the fact that more girls play piano than males.
But for good pianists, maybe the number is approximately equal.
