Hi

I know this probably sounds really stupid but i've never done a practical exam before (ive done theory) and i'm going in for grade 6 trumpet at the end of the year. I would be grateful if anyone could tell me what happens when you go in for the exam and how long it takes etc.

Thanks
hannah
Your teacher really should have explained all this to you so that you know exactly what will happen. The syllabus on this website will tell you all the requirements for the exam (pieces, scales, sightreading and aural). I think Grade 6 exams are about 25 minutes long.

there are several parts:
pieces (3 of them, marked out of 30)
scales (marked out of 21, you won't be tested on all of them)
sight reading (you get given a short piece and have to play it after 30 secs looking through, trying out, out of 21)
aural tests (out of 18)
Grade 6 takes about 20 minutes
