hi!

I read the topic on the jumps between the different levels of diploma with some interest, having done Dip and LRSM in organ performance a few years ago..

Has anyone on here taken FRSM organ? I didn't think the jump between Dip and LRSM was too bad but I must admit to having some misgivings now about the jump up to FRSM, even though some of the repertoire in the list appears on "lower" diplomas with TCL and LCM..

any organists advice gratefully received!

Mr bouffant, do you play horn by any chance?

your name is familiar.....

As to the organ FRSM, go for it, or go for seeing a professional organist, get a consultation lesson and ask them if they think you're up to it.

Hi mrbouffant,

I've taken the FRSM in organ performing. Just out of interest, what was your programme for the LRSM? Mine was:

Reger - Introduction & Passacaglia in D minor
Rheinberger - Sonata No. 3 in G, Op. 88
J.S. Bach - Trio Sonata No. 4 in E minor, BWV 528
Alain - Variatons sur un thème de Clément Jannequin
P. Eben - Hommage à Dietrich Buxtehude (Toccatenfuge)

As for repertoire in the list that has appeared on "lower" diplomas with TCL and LCM, a good example would be the inclusion of J.S. Bach's Trio Sonata No. 2 in C minor, BWV 526 and his Chorale Variations on "Sei gegrüsset, Jesu gütig", BWV 768 in the ATCL recital syllabus. I suspect that not many would attempt these works at the associate level. The Trio Sonata is fraught with technical difficulties and the chorale variations are simply too long, leaving the candidate relatively little time to fit three other pieces into his/her programme within the stipulated duration. Additionally, one can certainly expect the examiners' expectations and standard of marking to be MUCH higher at the fellowship level than at the associate and licentiate levels.

Please feel free to e-mail me at billymay@maxreger.zzn.com if you would like to discuss preparations for the FRSM or any other organ matters further. Always glad to chat with others about things organistic...

Best regards,
Billymay
