Hello!
I like to play flute! I will have my grade 8 flute exam in May this year. But I have some question! The second exam pieces I choose is the Suite Antique 3rd movement Waltz by John Rutter. The style written in the score is in Jazz Waltz. I haven't play jazz before. The time-signature is in three four time. Do I need to play in Jazz style, that means swing style ( count in triplet) or play as the score as written? The publisher of my score is Oxford University Press. Also, the last 2 bar of this movement( bar 172), the eighth of the note in this bar is D or D sharp? In bar 171 is D sharp, in bar 172, the third of the note is also D sharp. However , this pieces was composed in morden period, I don't know the eighth of the note in bar 172 is D or Dsharp? My score isn't write it so clearly. Any people can answer my question? Thank you!

In bar 171, the tied quaver from the previous bar is a D and then where it says senza rall, that D is a D sharp.
If you go
here you can listen to a recording of some of it, to get an idea of how it is played

Oh! I see! But how about in bar 172? the eighth of the note in bar 172? Have you play this pieces before?
Thank for your answer at all!

I think in bar 172 it goes:
B, D, D#, E, G, A, B, D#, E, G.
I have a recording of it, so I will check for you.
I am in the process of learning this piece, I love it, the other movements are nice too.
Are you doing the Waltz with the Aria for Grade 8?
Edit - just checked and it sounds better without the 2nd D#, the recording is too fast, but will try and match it.

I think in bar 172 the top D is a D. But no, it isn't clear.

hey,i've checked it for u, the problem of d and d# seems do not occur here, coz d# are chromatic notes there. in bar172,d6(the last high d) is d, not d#,it's becuse if it's a d#,an interval of augmented 2nd will be sounded. i think it is the ans and the score doesn't have problems you mentioned.

That's mean is high D, not high D sharp?
