Hi

I took my grade 4 practical in piano on 16th march (nervously waiting for results!) and was wondering if anyone else has ever not been asked to do any broken chords? I was worried the examiner had forgotten (even though i didn't actually realise i hadn't done them until the exam was over - nerves i think!) but then my teacher asked if i had been given a lot of scales and arpeggios as she said she might have been able to grade me on just those if i had whizzed through them quickly. I had been given loads and was actually quite surprised at how many she asked me to do but i am worried that if it was a mistake would i be marked down for it as i hadn't been tested on them?

Hi, It could just be because they saw how accurately you played your firts sets of scales that they didnt feel the need to. Either that or they may have felt they'd asked you too many already and wanted to press on with the exam for time keeping purposes. That's never happened to me, to have something forgotten from an exam, but I'm sure the examiner would have noticed that he/she didn't ask you and if they realised AFTER the exam was finished that they had forgotten then they CERTAINLY won't lose you marks because it's nothing to do with you when you're being instructed what to play. Anyway I'm sure you did fine, how did the rest of the exam go?? I did my grade 5 exam about 2 weeks ago and didn't do overly well in it....only got 109.......but I'm pleased because I passed, and for me a pass is what I want. So don't worry about your broken chord mix-up because I'm sure ya did great biggrin.gif

xxxxxxxxxx keep making that music people xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

quite intersting you mentioned that. in my grade 4 piano the examiner did all the scales and forgot about broken chords. she then said ok play your 1st peice when you're ready. 2 seconds later she went ooooops no sorry i havent asked you any broken chords, sorry i'll have to ask you them!!!!!!

Hi

Well done on passing your grade 5 - im sure you did fine. Still waiting for my results, my exam was on 16th march so hopefully should hear something this week. The rest of the exam went ok, i didn't make many mistakes (only 1 on my 2nd piece and 1 or 2 scales) so not feeling TOO nervous (that's a lie!!!) My examiner was very forgetful that day - she told me to play the arpeggios with both hands even though you only have to do 3 hands together and during the aural part she only played the melody once when she'd told me she was going to play it twice. So I was sitting there waiting for the second play and she just looked at me and said "well go on then, its your turn now" so I just apologised and reminded her and she was really embarrassed! I hope she didn't think I was being rude but I didn't want to look stupid as though I couldn't understand her instructions biggrin.gif

Anyway, thanks for the reassurance - how did your exam go?

Hi it's Lisa again, I got my results this morning and passed with distinction! biggrin.gif I got 132/150. Really pleased as now I can relax for what's left of the easter holidays and stop worrying every morning whether I'm going to get 'THE' phonecall from my teacher telling me my result!
