OK janexxx you win - for sharing first and last name initials I manage Domenico Scarlatti and Dmitri Shostakovich.

But I still like sharing a birthday with Sibelius, even if my little sister gets Beethoven.

6th August - Karl Ulrich Schnabel (1909 - 2001) apparently.

12th July - Anton Arensky, George Butterworth, Oscar Hamerstein II, Kirsten Flagstad, Gerd Albrecht, Richard Stoltzman, Roger Vignoles.

No, I'm none the wiser either!! unsure.gif

I'm an L too, but the only one I know out of the list is Liszt. The odd thing is, he's such a famous composer and I haven't heard or played any of his songs before.

Does anyone know if there's a site matching birthdays with composers? Mine's 16th May. biggrin.gif

I don't think my initials can be matched up to any composers: J.S.J.L. - that is unless I myself become a famous composer! biggrin.gif

grand choeur
R - Reger, Ravel, Rachmaninoff

Hey...

Mines is McC.........(I'm Scottish so pretty much the entire country has the intitals McC or Mac)......and I doubt that many 'famous' composers/musicians etc will have theses initials.....(maybe some American who decided one day that their 13th cousin twice removed on their mother's side had a dog that was born in Scotland so decided to say they had scottish ancestry so they really should have a name beginning with Mac....don't get mestarted on that!)

I can never get enough of Rach 2. It's always being played in my car at full blast being rewinded at certain parts because I find them so powerful I have to listen to them again. The tape is getting rather knackered now,so I might save up and replace the radio cassette for a CD player.

It does drive my family round the bend....they say," Oh No! Not this again..." I just reply, "Shut Up! Just listen to the music".

Have to agree about Rach 2 - I just can't get enough of it! Ever heard it live? (Played by a really good pianist and orchestra - I recommend Simon Trpescki and the Royal Liverpool Philaharmonic Orchestra!) Such an experience!

Rameau is the better known of these. Ravel is one of my favourite composers. I also like the music of Roussel and am currently practising the piano part of his "Andante et Scherzo" for flute and piano.

Other Rs include Rawsthorne, Rubbra and Reizenstein (all British).

blink.gif What kind of name would that be? And providing you found one person, the chance that there would be a famous composer with the same initial would be pretty slim! tongue.gif
