my first 2 piano teachers were awful, ill expereienced and ill qualified.
my current teacher has LRSM and is very experienced, patient (even though she leads a very stressful life) and exuberant.
She took me from grade nothing to grade 8 in a very short time.
I have a seperate teacher for aural, she's okay but i can see that she can be bad at times (my girlfriend stopped playing the piano because of her). she is a piano/singing teacher and disliked by many music experts/students/teachers in the country.
however she is quite nice with me cos she knows im grade 8 piano (which i don't even think she has) .
i have another general music teacher/mentor at school who gives me pointers every now and again, although he is a cellist he has experience in music analysis and is quite handly sometimes....

Well, I told you I was old enough to be Hammerklavier's granny, so why not go all the way and let it slip...
Actually, I'm probably only old enough to be his mum but old enough to be your granny, Nat!

| QUOTE | PS It's a bit off topic - but I used to teach someone whose parents met while escaping out of Hungary in 1956. A lovely lovely family.

Interesting .... and I know you shouldn't generalise, but the Hungarians I've met all seem to be amazingly warm and friendly. My teacher's husband was the most wonderful man - ebullient and magnetic. |
Mmmm, well - you are BARELY old enough to be Hammerklavier's mum, actually!
Well - naturally! - all my most wonderful teachers have been Hungarian. They have all had an incredible depth of character and love of humanity, besides being the most amazing musicians and teachers. I think it is partly to do with the fact that Hungary has been an oppressed nation for much of its history..???
I remember some time ago someone saying to me, 'You shouldn't put these Hungarians on a pedestal, you know, they're just human beings!' But I'm afraid I shall continue to put them on a pedestal because that's exactly where they belong...the most amazing, awe-inspiring people I have ever met or have had the privilege of being taught by.

I quite agree with you Cyrilla! And guess what - I've found out recently that my grandmother's family was entirely of Hungarian origin (rather than Austrian, as we'd thought) - yay! There's also Hungarian on my grandfather's side, which rather explains the recent discovery of a couple of mysterious (and musical) Hungarian cousins living in Devon. Anyway, this all explains my irresistable charm and magnetism etc etc, Cyrilla.
Violinia, in pretentious mode (so what's new?

Ah - I knew there was something very special about you, Violinia!!
Hmmm - the pretentious mode - don't think I know that one - is it anything like the Lydian mode - or the Bagpuss scale - or - ???????

Hahaha - the pretentious mode! Then there's the rebellious mode etc etc - must think up a few more.
