Hi All

I've always wanted to take Music as at degree level, however when I needed to take the A level they did not run it at my college, and did not have grade 8 theory at the time, and for the universities I applied for they wanted one or the other. However, I was just wondering whether there is any diploma out there that is classed as the equivalent of a bachelor's degree in music, so I can better my qualifications without going back to do another Bachelor's degree?

Hope someone can help

Have a look back through the threads on this forum. (You'll have to change it to show threads from the beginning, rather than just the last 30 days.) I know this has been discussed several times before.

Hi smile.gif

In the ABRSMs attaintment levels info, it lists LRSM as BA with honours.

Hope this helps

Yeah.. that's fantastic thanks. I am kindof preparing for the Dip ABRSM at the minute, so I guess I can work my way up through the diplomas! smile.gif

Hey Joy:

If you already have a Bachelor-level degree, why not consider the Open University's MA in Music ? There are details at:

http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/bin/p12.dll?Q01F32_1_0

It looks really interesting and I'm giving serious consideration to enrolling next time around. The fact you get "let off" a year if you pass FRSM is also a bonus (I may get there one day... smile.gif )

I've just had a look and that looks very interesting! Thanks for the tip. It must be a new thing. I'll email them.

Thanks again

I think that where the Associated Board's diploma qualifications are compared with e.g. Batchelor degree, Master's degree etc. that they are saying that the standard attained is of the same level, but not the quantity of work.

This is why, for example, an FRSM can be used as part-fulfilment (one year) of the MA in Music at the Open University.

BTW I also noticed the MA (Mus) course from the Open University. I think it a new course as I had also taken a look at their courses not too long ago and hadn't seen it. It looks very interesting but I'll wait and see if I can pass the FRSM first!

The first year this course ran was 2004 (January) I think... might be wrong tho' unsure.gif i've been planning to start it ever since, i get the prospectus every year but never _quite_ get around to it lol
