I am a bit confused in the aural part of the jazz exams. Each time I took a jazz piano exam I had a different reaction from the examiners when it came to the improvising section, 'Would you like to sing or play'.
I always opt for play. Grade 1 and 3 I was allowed to see the music on the piano stand. Grade 2 the examiner said I wasn't allowed to see it. Grade 4 I was allowed to see it again and grade 5 the examiner hid the music but told me the piece was in E minor.

What are the rules? Does anyone know?
