Everyone says that teachers are there to help but what about unsupportive teachers who really don't like you because they've taken a severe personal dislike to you and are being totally unprofessional in taking out their feelings on your work?? I have the pleasure of having a teacher like that!! But i don't even know what i've done to upset him!! sad.gif It really doesn't help when you're told right before your exams that you are rubbish at something despite the fact that you've worked really hard to get to where you are for many years!! I mean all i'm asking for is support in something that is really important to me but it doesn't look like i'm likely to get it!! That teacher's targetted me for an A* at GCSE and i've got 174/180 for my composition/performing/appraisals and stuff but he still doesn't feel that i can do well at A-Level!! He knows how much music matters to me but he has blatently refused to support my decission. I don't know maybe he is saying this because he genuenly thinks that taking music will be a mistake for me but all i'm asking for is his support in doing something that matters to me so much!! huh.gif Anyway, rant over lol, i'll shut up now lol biggrin.gif

Awww, poor you. My Music teacher, although nice, is so disorganised and laid back, she has lost some of my music, and she has only just realised how far behind we are and how much of the syllabus we haven't actually done. The exam - 2 weeks time!
Oh, and we only have 1 music teacher!

But, my biggest problem isn't my Music teacher, my Physics teacher has taught us the bare minimum, our Graphics teacher decided that instead of revising up until our exam we would be making a drinks carton. So tomorrow, I am going to ask if I can revise.

Ours are really organised, except the CD copier borke on friday trying to record mine and katet's a-level compositions onto CD. They have arrive at AQA on friday, and they have to be packed and checked and stuff in the school office first. So now they're just being stressheads!
nicki_flute
Although they are found now, my teacher lost one of my friend's A* performances and somebody elses composition. She still hasn't found my music though, which she has had since the beginning of December '04.

The teacher? I have no idea. The thing is I didn't need the music piano part, but now I do, I have the highest band which I want to get into and am playing a piece out of that.
She always says the same thing "It isn't lost, just misplaced". Her desk, well you can't see it, and it is so infuriating. My flute teacher had to go and write a message on the noticeboard in her office.
The only reason I didn't get it from her in the first place is because after the concert in December she was busy socialising (and not best to interrupt her)!

Me too. dry.gif

I have a maths teacher like that. My stats teacher is lovely and she will do anything to help you understand something, even give up her entire lunchtime! cool.gif So I usually just get help from her with pure modules work!

He was so shocked when I passed the january module! (D, ok its not the best grade, but I passed). He is completely un supportive, and last week he made one of the girls run out of the classroom crying!

Why can teachers be so awful!!
My tutor just enjoys putting me down, being awkward and just being so uncooperative.

You can do that to a few of my teachers if you like, i don't mind lol biggrin.gif
Me and my music teacher have a love-hate relationship - he hates me and i love annoying him!! tongue.gif

Oh, I'd love to smack a big smelly fish around my tutor's face. Muahaha!

there is no time to sleep!!!

I remember staying up all night to revise. I was so tired I nearly fell asleep during the exam! I passed, but I know I would have done better if I had got some sleep before the exam.
nicki_flute
Good sleep is essential, otherwise you'll be able to concentrate less, find you're brain doesn't want to do things and you feel worse. Then because you haven't got as much done as you'd like you stay up later. A good night's sleep does wonders.
liebe_klavier
i know.....but i can't possibly sleep....my AS german oral is on this tuesday.....damn...
nicki_flute
You can sleep, if you do different sleep patterns, your body will be confused. I think you're supposed to stop revising an hour before you go to sleep.
flute_gurl
yes, I always find that if I don't, my brain can't switch off, so i can't go to sleep! Good luck to everyone taking exams, I'm year 10, so only have 1 (re shortcourse that I'm not bothered about because I didn't want to do it in the 1st place) which is in...2 weeks and...5 days i think. The only thing that worries me is, because theres no coursework for re, the whole thing is on that 1 exam! and althogh i dont really care, I'd rather not fail...

But hey, we regularly hear how "easy and dumbed-down" that GCSE's and A levels are. Confidence boosting or what. Made slightly worse by the fact my predicted grades are getting lower and lower... sad.gif unsure.gif blink.gif sad.gif

Owch yes, that does hurt doesnt it, its really not fair on the people who have to sit the exams. All we get from older people is 'in my day exams were far harder.........'
yes well nowadays we're just over examined.
nicki_flute
I think we're the most tested country in Europe.
flute_gurl
nicki_flute, i definitely agree! my mum told me about a country in Europe (cant' remember which 1 unfortunately) where students have no exams at all, and can study what they want from a young age, and they are regarded to be some of the most highly educated people in Europe....

Yes, and you can say- "Taken an exam lately, have you?"
dry.gif mad.gif
nicki_flute
It doesn't make you feel any better, when you revise and struggle to do a topic, and people are just saying "Oh it is easy"
noodle
Its only easy if you know the answers.
saxlover
which in my case....i dont sad.gif
nicki_flute
In Maths, some of the questions look like a foreign language!

as long as its not french or german............

And I can't stand revising for my yr 10 gcse science exam in June. It's worth 25% of my overall grade blink.gif
flute_gurl
25%?? which board are you doing? I've been doing science modules over the year, got 2 more left, so 6 in total which are worth like 5% each or something, I havn't heard anyting about an exam worth 25...
Rainbow
I think it's ocr... not entirely sure. What board are you doing?
flute_gurl
You know, I can't actually remember...I'm doing so many different ones, some are ocr, some are aqa, some are edexcel & some are WJEC...i have a feeling its edexcel...not sure though
Hulk
25%! For exams in Scotland the exam on the day counts for 50% of the overall grade, in every subject. The rest is made up of classwork, internal assessment etc.
nicki_flute
I think Rainbow meant what are called module tests, little tests before the final exam. In my experience, on AQA, the module tests are worth 25% altogether (5% each), and coursework is worth about 25% too.

Most final exams are worth 50% towards final grade.
flute_gurl
ah ok, that sounds similar to mine, except mine are 30% module tests and 20% coursework, then 50% final exam
nicki_flute
My module tests may well be 30%. I think we did 6, and they were 5% each. I was guessing at the figures. Which exam board are you on?
jonscott14
we're doing the aqa modualr tests as well - the most annoying things ever!! theres to much in those tests just to be worth 5% each!!
although is they were for music i wouldn't mind
nicki_flute
I quite liked them, you could focus on one topic, and it doesn't mean the final exam could be on anything!
flute_gurl
not sure of the board, but there are 6 of them, 5% each, so probably the same. I like them because they're multiple choice! Also, for the final exam you have to know god knows how many topics, for these you only need 1 smile.gif although my next 2 are on earth material, which should be fine, and electricity....not so gud...I'd much prefer only to have one or 2 questions on electricity than a whole paper!
sarah-flute
Wish any of my exams ever had been multiple choice - at least you have a chance of getting even the hardest questions right as long as you tick *something*!!
Saxynic
You really are like me Clarinetlover! Always putting yourself down!! STOP IT!! Im sure your exams will be fine! xxxxxx

Oh guys, gimmie a break! Those module papers are a blessing *seriously*, as well as being not too bad. You get 30% of your grade out of the way in Y10, so you don't have to worry about it in Y11, you can retake if you really mess up. Only 1 topic is assessed in each. And you've got a 50% chance of getting every guestion right. (You can always dismiss two answers straight away because they're so obviously wrong.)

We used to refer to them as multiple guess.

I'm not saying they're easy, but they don't half take a weight of your mind come Y11.

If you really want to try a hard multiple guess paper though, you should take a look at the IB Chemistry Multiple choice paper. About 50% of it is based on maths, and its a non calculator paper. Very nasty.

Good luck everyone. smile.gif

I have to say I agree with Tamsin: I had coursework for some of my GCSEs, but mostly they were just exams, and all of the exams that counted were in year 11: we had exams (hard ones) in year 10 but they didn't count at all. It's rough in some ways having exams that count a year early, but at least it potentially gets a whole 30% of your mark out of your way before you even start year 11. Multiple choice tests CAN be evil, although there is always the happy knowledge that you have a 1 in 4 or whatever chance of getting the mark even if it's a total guess (ie even if you just guessed everything you'd be likely to get *about* 25%), but I doubt the GCSE ones are THAT evil, and at least each multiple choice test you take means a little less pressure for your summer exams in year 11.

When I was at school not even most A Levels were modular - only science. Things change... I feel old!!
Andy-piano-flute
Do they do multiple choice with negative marking any more? They did in my era!!
sarah-flute
They did that for some of the Maths challenge things, I remember: but besides that I never did anything multiple choice at school.
noodle
Some of my science papers were marked like that.
Rainbow
The science exam I'm taking is with ocr and isn't multiple choice... far from it!
saxlover
the science modules i did at GCSE were multiple choice.....i made pretty patterns in the random boxes hehe no wonder i did rubbish!
flute_gurl
no negative marking as far as I no, and i remembered the board! AQA, I'm pretty certain. Rainbow- good luck! I mean , woth multiple choice You've got a good chance, but if it's not, then I'm so glad I'm not on ocr!
Helen
Science modules at GCSE do not use negative marking.
nicki_flute
Meh, but some of the answers aren't obvious in the modules, they think of all the ways a student could go wrong! For my Physics one on energy, I got a really low B, and all the rest I got As and A*s. This was because we had a rubbish teacher and although I thought I had worked out things correctly, I obviously hadn't!

Are you taught with two teachers?? At my college we are and one teacher is good. One teacher is very very very bad.

the modlule papers are ok. A bit daunting at first...
