A Mighty Fortress (= Ein Feste Burg ist unser Gott?), is not included in my edition of the opus 65 set, although it does state that they are selected from opus 65, so there are obviously others. My ed contains the following:

Freu dich sehr, O meine Seele
Mit Ernst O Menschenkinder
Vom Himmel hoch
O Welt ich muss dich lassen
Sollt ich meinem Gott nicht singen
Jese hilf siegen
Lobe den Herren, O meine Seele
Gott des Himmels und der Erden
Ich dank dir, lieber Herre
O Ewigkeit du Donnerwort
O Gott du frommer Gott
Schmucke dich o Liebe Seele
Nun danket alle Gott
Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan

Nun danket is probably the best known, although I particularly like Praise the Lord (Lobe den Herren, no 7 in my edition).

Thx maggiemay...

I have a Barenreiter volume (BA8440) called "Jazz Inspirations for Organ". Mostly German contemporary composers reworking mostly German chorales in the Jazz style, giving an interesting modern slant on the Baroque treatment of these melodies. Well worth a go, especially for the rather nice Jazz Fugue... Ein Feste Burg also makes an appearance as does Nun Danket Alle Gott in a blues style. biggrin.gif

see www.barenreiter.com for more details !

“Ein Feste Burg ist unser Gott” (“A Mighty Fortress is Our God”) is No. 47 of Karg-Elert's 66 Chorale Improvisations, Op. 65. It has been published in isolation (like the famous “Nun Danket alle Gott”, No. 59) by Fentone, edited by Bryan Hesford (Fentone F280). It is otherwise available in the Breitkopf & Härtel edition (Vol. 5). B & H has also published fourteen selected chorale improvisations as a separate album (which I believe is the one maggiemay has).

This is certainly an advanced work, almost like a chorale fantasy one might expect of compatriot Max Reger: Ein Feste Burg ist unser Gott MP3
