Ive got my grade 7 in the Summer but i cant decide which piece to do from list A. I tried the Brahms and the Weber - both very different. My clarinet teacher cant play the Brahms on the piano to accompany me so i would have to practice with the CD . He can easily play the Weber. Anyone played these??? I like them both so i was just wondering if anyone could give me their opinion.
Im not sure whether i could get the Brahms up to speed because it's quite tricky but the Weber requires so much control!
HELP!!!

I did the Brahams, and I really liked it! My teacher couldn't play it til 3 days before my exam, I was wetting myself!
I didn't like the Weber, but I'm glad I did the Brahms!
(the Lyons is ace too, from list B!)

if its any help i did a trinity exam which might (probably) has a different sylabus but my teacher tried to choose pieces that were on both sylabusses... anyway - i took Poulenc clarinet sonata 2nd movement, lutoslawski 1st movment and Bennet 2nd movement from a sonatina or something (not too sure of the piece cos i only learnt it last min! - shocking thaat i got best marks on the piece as well!!!!!)
anyway keep us updated - good luck!

I did the Tartini Concertino, 3rd and 4th mvts, for my Grade 7, and I remember that I enjoyed working on it. The Pierne Canzonetta is also a good piece on that list.
The other pieces I did were the Graham Lyons and Hard Rock Blues. I loved the Hard Rock Blues!

The piano part in the poulenc's better than the clarinet part. It's got nicer stuff in it (yes I know it plays more notes!)
And why did he write the stupid thing so high?! A G quietly kills my lip! lucky it's only a dotted quaver!

heya guys!!!
Thanks for all the replies!

I've decided to play the Brahms and give my teacher lots of work to do! lol! I realised that i was trying to play it faster than the CD so no wonder i was having problems!! I am also playing the Lutoslawski and study number 63( i think!) from 80 graded studies for clarinet. Is anybody else planning on doing grade 7 in the summer?

I've played all of those! Except I didn't do the Lutoslwaski (I did the Lyons) and I played a different study to the one you're doing but out of the same book, but I've still played them all anyway!
The Brahams was ok in an exam situation, just the very first entry that went a bit funny. I didn't come off the D properly so there was a gap in between that and the next note, but it didn't matter!
I did it at Christmas, so I don't think I'll be doing that in the summer!
