Just posted off my entry form for DipABRSM piano today. It's quite scary - I've actually committed to doing it now. Now to work on programme notes......

I've entered for the Cardiff centre - does anyone know where the exams are being held here or does it change from session to session? CMorris?

I've entered the clarinet performance diploma for July in Winchester - bit scared now though! wink.gif

Good luck Hannah and Appassionata!

Good luck to both of you.

Hannah-I don't think that the centres are listed anywhere (other than by city name) but if you can't find out before they'll definitely tell you where it is in the letter with your exam date so don't worry about not finding out.

Hannah,

To add to AnotherPianist's note, not long after the closing date for entries you'll get a note acknowledging receipt of your entry, but you won't get an actual date and venue notice until around 4-6 weeks before the exam period. I also got directions to the venue and a map.

Both my exam attempts were in London - the first was at the AB's own exam suite, the second at a music-rooms-for-hire place in north London. So you might find that there's a range of places in use in Cardiff, but you can be assured that you'll get a decent instrument and there should be a room to warm up in prior to the exam.

Hi, I did my diploma in January in Cardiff. It was held in the Royal College of Music and Drama. Good Luck! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I'm doing my piano diploma this term but i'm afraid it's with Trinity ohmy.gif , doing my LTCL recital on piano in July. The only reason i'm doing Trinity is because my teacher has defected and is now the local representative. Am hoping (if i'm capable!) to go back to Associated Board if I decide to do the fellowship. I would be interested to hear if anyone knows how similar the two boards mark on diplomas at the moment, as it's worrying me!

Dear Possom,

The prerequisite for FRSM is either LRSM or FTCL. LTCL will only allow you to enter for LRSM. The Associated Board is not giving equal status for the Trinity diplomas, so you will have to take an extra exam (either FTCL or LRSM) after your LTCL if you want to go back to Associated Board for your fellowship. Hope this help!

Having compared the two diploma syllabuses, I think I might just take the LRSM in the autumn if all goes well in the LTCL, these are my pieces for the LTCL:-

Bach Partita No. 2 in C minor
Mozart Sonata in D K 576
Chopin Nocturne in C minor op 48 no 1
Syzmanowski Etude op 4 no 3

I've checked the AB syllabus and it seems I can play the Bach and Mozart for the LRSM, and the Chopin Ballade that I played for my ATCL. I have just bought the Bartok Sonata, so will probably learn that to complete the programme.

I know it might sound abit mad, I just like taking exams again biggrin.gif
