I have had lessons for the last two years, but played a bit (self taught) before that.
Interesting to see the different rates at which people progress.

Just about four years now; although I always liked to play around myself before that and learn things the wrong way (i.e. if I found something that I wanted to play, no matter how hard it was, just learn it by rote) thus learning to play a few pieces rather than learning to learn pieces properly.

I played for 3 years from 10-13 (ish!) then didn't have lessons and played very infrequently for MANY years, and have now been having lessons again once a fortnight for maybe 10 months.
I did grade 3 before I quite but I wasn't really ready for it. Catching up with myself now - just learning some grade 3 pieces... scales wise I'm about grade 6 or 7 though, I like piano scales!

Gee I must be getting senile! How can it be 15 years when I took Grade 4 in 1989? See teachers' forum for more info...

It's actually 25 years (as of my birthday at the end of this year) and still learning...
