I play a bass trom and have been (from the tenor) for about a year and a half. My problem is that no matter how hard I try I have immense difficulty filling it. I exercise alot, and play alot, but it has no effect. I've started using my diaphragm more, but it only makes high notes more stable. If anyone has any advice on this please help because if I have to play a certain piece one more time the way I'm being yelled at to I thionk I'm going to collapse! ohmy.gif

I have put some thought into this and it is difficult to tell you what is going wrong without seeing you.

It doesn't matter what brass instrument you play the breathing in my opinion is the same. Try saying "WOW" as you breathe in - thats how I teach my pupils.

Remember you are going onto a larger bore instrument and probably a bigger mouthpiece. Don't worry about range yet , that will come. An F above the bass stave is fine to start. To build up your stamina practise scales down then up.

As for someone yelling at you I would yell back " I AM TRYING MY BEST"

Good website for bas bones www.yeodoug.com

Good luck

Thanks for your advice! Although I can get the F above the F you recommended hee hee, I forgot to say I'd been playing the tenor for several years before that! Good lord the WOW thing really works!!!!
Thanks again for taking the time laugh.gif
