Okay, I've got more questions to ask everybody, but this time, it's about compositions!

1) Have you composed any pieces of music? (if not, answer each question conditionally, if you were to compose a piece, and then go to question 6!)

2) What era would you say it fits into (like genre, style, I hope everybody doesn't say 'Modern'!)

3) What's the length of your composition?

4) How many compositions have you made? (If more than one, please go back to Question 2 and 3 and repeat for each composition, if you have not already done so!)

5) Names of your composition(s)? (optional)

6) What are your opinions on composition?

Good Luck! biggrin.gif

1) yes
2) mainly 20th century- I yhave written in the classical style but don't like it very much! Most have a clarinet and/or piano in, but I've done a film score and a brass quartet!(Brass quartet didn't get submitted, it was rubbish!)
3) shortest is 2 minutes (unless it's unfinished!) longest 6 mins
4) 3 for GCSE, 1 GCSE reserve, 2 for AS +1 reserve, 1 for A2, and several that I've done for the sheer ###### of it!
5) stupid names, coz they were named by my teacher! (If they have one!)
6) I like my piano one I did, I don't like the second subject of one in sonata form but the rest of it is ok, and anything where I don't know the instrument v well turns out as a disaster! Hence lots of clarinet and piano!

PS dont't know why it dashed me out, I didn't say anything remotely rude?!

1. Ummm, well, almost...most of them were left half finished then were destroyed. Now I'm working on my 5th attempt, much better now I've learned how to "translate" notes from my brain to paper better, it's going to be a Sonata in E minor, if it's not going to be destroyed again.
2. My own style: it's pretty Beethoven-istic but I'm planning to add something more modern in the middle (I mean for the one I'm working on)
3. Now it's still around 40 bars length, and the secondary theme is still half-written. I plan to make the first movement around 150 bars or so, well at least until I'm satisfied, and I also want to add something between the end of the first theme and the start of the second theme. It'll be around 8 minutes maximum (just the first movement-3 or 4 planned total)
4. I told you, it's my 5th attempt, but frequently I come up with a beautiful melody in my head then I leave the last composition I worked on and start a new one!
5. I've already told you the last one, but destroyed rest had stupid or no names at all.
6. At least this one isn't garbage! But the first ones weren't worth of writing!

1. Yes, many!

2. Depends on the piece - at school we wrote things that HAD to be in certain styles. Not very contemporary I guess - not into scary stuff, like music to sound nice!!! Have done everything from unaccompanied melodies to a fugue for string quartet.

3. Quite a large range! Porbably the longest single piece would be the fugue, I think.

4. Yes. And, um, no. I haven't got several days to spend working all that out for every piece I ever wrote, or even the best of the bunch - sorry.

5. Most recent was "An afternoon in Guadeloupe" and the other pieces that go with it.

6. I enjoy it, but prefer to compose because I have been inspired to rather than to fulfil a commission like we had to at school.
