For a pianist, does a lefthander has any advantage or disadvantage over righthander?

How can i explain/convince the parent its okie if the child is left handed...

sbhoa
I don't think it makes any difference at all.
It is a new skill that is being learned and the newness overides any difference this may make.
I am left handed and play (and teach) piano.
I also have a left handed student.
When I play I am the same as a right hander.... my right hand is the dominant hand on the piano. My left hande student is the same.

I'm left handed too. This is quite interesting as a lot of musicians are left handed.

Are they just looking for a way out of having to find the money for lessons?

AFAIK, the left hand side of the body is controlled by the right hand side of the brain and vice versa. The right hand side of the brain is *supposed* to be the more creative half. So if the left side of your body - therefore the right side of your brain - is dominant, then theoretically you should have a distinct avantage musically.

Interesting! Viohazard started on violin rather than piano at age 4 because I couldn't persuade him to use his RH for playing melody. He either refused to play the harmony at all and played with his left hand in the treble clef, or simply switched the harmony and melody and played melody in bass clef, harmony in treble. When I tried to insist, he just crossed his hands sad.gif .

At that point, I decided he was way too young to reason with, and started considering alternative instruments:huh: .
