Hi guys, (especially any cellists!)
I really need a new cello case because mine's falling to pieces but i just don't know where to find a good quality, light weight and not too bulky one.
I've tried so many different places. Are there any good websites maybe or could anyone suggest a certain type that you think would be suitable??? (my cello's a full-size)
It would be great if anyone could help...
Luv

Hi Daisy
My son has a Lightweight stentor hard case (£100). It is very sturdy and light but it can be bulky. You can buy so Cholley wheels (£85) to attach to it.
If you are after a soft case. The Ritter case are excellent they cost £25 from ebay and have a padded bow case that you can pull out of the bow holder and extra bridge protection. Comes with backpack straps in a nice blue colour.
Hope this helps.

Hi Daisy,
The following company is well worth a try.
JPB MusicI think they offer 10% discount on your first order. Most of the cases they list they also keep in stock.
Headcase now do a carbon fibre version for about £600, (which is cheap as carbon fibre cases go) or a standard fibreglass for about £260.
I would also recommend BAM cases. Really well constructed, of modern design and materials and quite light too. The BAM Newtech is about £450.
Hope this helps

Hey Polly,
Won't the place you hire your cello from buy the case for you?

Are Hiscox any good at all? Someone said they were quite good-anyone heard of them?
Also, do you know where to get some wheels from?
Purple dolphin-nah, the company only have really old ones that are too heavy anyway!

Hi Daisy
I've got a Hiscox case for my cello and its fab. Very light yet strong, and it has built-in wheels!
You can get them with or without wheels. A cello colleague bought one without wheels, and was horrified when she saw mine with them built in! So she traded hers in for a wheely one and she's happy now! They're not cheap, but they seem to last. Few scratches on mine after 1.5 years, but should last indefinitly.
It was recently dropped with my cello inside (why I let kids near it I'll never know!) and all was perfect on inspection. I needed resuscitation however!

Wheels for the Stentor are £85? Wow! We get our styrofoam cases from Gliga with the wheels built in - seems we've been underselling them!!!

No the wheels arent for the Stentor. They are universal wheels made for cellos but Cholley. You have to attach them on everytime. I havent got any on our Stentor we just hump it around. However when my son finally reaches the 3/4 I will get him a hard case with wheels cant wait.
Liz how much are your wheelie cases out of interest and I am assuming you only do big sizes....

Well, we can certainly get them down to 1/4 size and I think even down to 1/8.
It's like this: since we are without access to a repairer and look likely to be in that position for the forseeable future, it is a major problem to us if the soundpost arrives collapsed. So these days we are only getting cellos sent in styrofoam cases because that way we can persuade Gliga to send them bridge up and therefore the soundposts don't collapse. It isn't a problem sending them out this end without a hard case because we just send everything bridge up anyway. So just occasionally we end up with a case which we don't actually need because the cello buyer either has a case already or wants to minimise expense and so goes for a padded bag. Right now we have a 4/4 case and a 1/4 case spare.
Anyway, the bottom line is we sell them for £100.
