In the grade 8 scales book why have they only listed a few of the scales? (they dont have a or g major...etc) does this mean that we only have to do these ones in the exam or that we still have to do them all but they've only listed examples. help!

I did grade 8 piano in March and I found it quite odd that the scale book didn't include the basics such as G major but it did include C major! You only have to learn everything that is in your scale book, nothing else apart from aural, your pieces and sightreading - the usual!
Hope that's ok!

I am studying for grade 6 at the moment. Can anyone tell me why you have to learn all the scales in grade 6 but in grade 8 you only have to learn a selection?

I took my grade 8 flute in march. You basically have to learn all your scales. If you have an ABRSM scale book for your instrument it will tell you which scales you DONT need to know from the the book.

I would hope that by grade 8 you would have learned all the scales anyway.
Just because you won't get tested on them doesn't mean you shouldn't know them
.
You have to play them in 3rds and 6ths at grade 8 and arpeggios in all inversions.
