I had my grade 6 exam the other day ohmy.gif , I was very nervous and fumbled over a few scales. My hands were shaking so much as I was playing the piano. pieces not to bad, one I played much to fast. My mind went blank at the sight reading and the aural was dreadful. Has anyone else had a similar experience and passed? Please let me know sad.gif

A little late to ask for help.

Just read the identical post I've made to every person on this forum who's come out of exam freaking out.

Can you try and remember that everyone goes through the same thing, and that asking people for sympathy wwhen an exam hasn't gone perfectly will just end up irritating people who've gone through the same thing.

I think this is a bit of a harsh response, especially since it is bid's very first post.

This forum is for students to post about their experiences, after all. Since it is 'exam time', there are bound to be students wanting to get their 'bad exam experience' off their chest. They may not have anyone else who understands to 'talk' it through with.

had grade 6 exam yesterday was very nervous. scale ok apart from arps. two pieces not to bad, other one played to fast, fingers tripping over. sight reading dreadful. aural bad apart from knowing the major and minor key. help!

Hi bid, I'm sure you didn't do as badly as you think you did. Two of the pieces were fine weren't they, and most of the scales.

Let us know how you get on.

I would like to echo what Carys said. It's often not as bad as you think.
I find my students remember the things that went badly, and forget about all the other things that went ok.

Try not to worry. You may be pleasantly surprised!

I can't help feeling that remark may be a little upsetting to someone who feels that they have just struggled with a grade 6 piano exam and wishes to be reassured. Some people find theory easy and practical hard; others find theory hard and practical easy: so try not to belittle the achievements of the group you are not in. Grade 6 piano is obviously not too simple otherwise you would have got 150!

Bid-as many people have said I think that everyone remembers the bad things that they did in exams and not the good things: I'm sure in over time you'll remember the good things that you did, usually you've not done as badly as you think!
