Can anyone recommend some good books for teaching aural to beginners. Ovbiously you can buy the specimen tests and 'Aural Time' but neither of these are very interesting. Are there any modern books which come with CD's but still are based on the requirements of the syllabus.

The Associated Board Aural Training in Practice has a CD, one for each book Grades 1-3, 4 & 5 and 6-8. There Is also ABC of Aural Awareness. I use Aural Time quite a lot, because the children like hearing familiar tunes - Christmas carols, nursery rhymes etc. I'm not sure what you mean by modern.

No - I'm not sure what I mean by modern either! I would like to use something which has a bit more to it than pages and pages of instructions. I find the Aural Time books are rather dull looking as are the Aural Training in Practice.

I'm not being sarcastic here, but what exactly are you looking for? Pretty pictures or what? I only use the Turnbull books as the ABRSM don't have enough examples..although I have them in my possession...inc tapes... and refer to them occasionally.Other than that, all I can suggest is using the music your pupils are currently studying for and compromise with that.

No offence please...
