Anyone ever got 15/15 in the Grade 5 composition part? Or higher grades? The best I can do is 12/15, and that was sort of almost copying the opening 2 bars 3 times with only a few variations.

Yes, quite a few of my students have got 15/15 in grade 5 composition. Most of them got 100% in the exam.

I got 14. Bah. So close.

I got 18/20 for the grade 6 one... 19/20 for grade 7 and 17/20 for grade 8.

When I did grade 5 it was before they sent out mark sheets.. but I got 98%.

I got 12/15 for composition, and could not see what more I could do. It was musically structured, I even did phrase markings, dynamics and the like.

For what it's worth, I got 15/15 for composition at grade 5. My "composition" wasn't very inspired. I used the given material as much as possible. I believe I repeated it a 3rd or 2nd higher, went back to the original material but ended on a V chord at the end of the 4th bar. I repeated the material again with a modified rhythm, repeated again almost verbatim but modified at the very end with an implied V I cadence structure. I then "prettied" it up by adding phrasing, dynamics, tempo, and breathing marks.

I only got 10/15 for grade 5 theory

I got 14, but I never used phrasing, dynamics, accents or anything like that! Was I supposed to?!

Yes, I've got full mark for Question one and two for grade7 and 8.

And the good news is: Both of my school orchestras ( symphony and chamber ) are using my compositions for this year's competition!! ( one Piano concerto and one Violin Concerto).

Same here! I find it so difficult to transfer what I'm hearing in my head onto a piece of paper without playing it on an instrument first!

You really don't need to. If you know where it is going harmonically you just make the notes fit.
This works at all grades but you also have to be able to continue in the same style as the opening... it should look as though it belongs and not like something just tagged on.

This was always my problem when doing theory papers, tended to get too carried away doing my own thing!

I don't know what I got though, I didn't get a breakdown, but got a distinction so I guess I can't have lost TOO many marks!
