I know this is a dumb question but I'm a bit confused with the octave signs on page 2 of New orleans Nightfall when the first theme comes back in and is played in octaves. Does the octave higher sign apply to both hands or just the right hand i.e. does the left hand play the treble notes as written or an octave higher too? I've always been a bit confused with this and need to confirm it. I think the confusion stems from the fact that I'm sure I've played some music where the octave signs were in both hands...(maybe the left hand was in the bass clef in this instance though. I can't remember!
Many thanks!

The hands are supposed to be 2 octaves apart, as described in the Teaching Notes book published by the Associated Board.

Gae - it's not a dumb question at all. I had the same thoughts when I first looked at this piece a few months ago.
Fortunately as the previous poster mentioned, the advice in the teaching notes is helpful.
It's a great piece. My student who did it last term hadn't done anything quite like this before, and really enjoyed it.

Thanks. We were actually doing them 2 octaves apart because when both hands go back to "loco" later on they are written 2 octaves apart then so we had decided to follow the same pattern throughout that section. The spacing sounds nicer.
Thanks for confirming though.
