I am playing a piece with nice slured phrases, but I can't slur to high notes without making it sound awful, I've tried sluring in 3rd and increasing to 4ths then 5ths etc, but in the piece I can't slur in higher octaves with out either, splitting the note, the note not coming out or just making some kind of wierd sound which definately isn't top G. And its really annoying me now. What can I do?

Will think about this and see if I have any bright ideas - my initial reaction is "practice lots!" and "support LOTS!" and "don't tense up!" but of course we have many bright flutey minds round here who might be more helpful wink.gif

which piece? where exactly are you slurring to and from?

Yes how big are the intervals. On one of my exam pieces, I had to do some big interval jumps, and for my Musicianship question I got asked how I did it. So, support lots, direct your airstream up if you're going higher, and keep the air going.

Right! Ok I have this problem in general with high notes but is getting much better! The key is lots of support have a good tone on the lower note then all you have to do is move your fingers. Oh and dont over blow the note! Hope this helps!

Heehee. I just read my post and realised it makes no sense whatsoever. Minuet from L'arlésienne suite, the first phrase of the flute part, Eb3 B2 G3.
