I am an adult learner taking grade 7 cello in the summer. I'd like some advice on the minimum speed I should aim for in scales. 'These Music Exams' only suggests that bowing will dictate the speed of slurred scales and separate bows should be no more than 1/2 bow length. This still leaves a wide range of possibilities however. I'd be really grateful if anyone experienced can suggest a range of metronome speeds - I can play the scales etc. pretty well but knowing that I am within an acceptable range would be helpful. Why can't this be documented as it is for piano and guitar?
