am i just stupid? ive only just realised that if 25% is this exam, and 15% is terminal task then is 60% coursework?????????(ocr)

Yep, the great thing about OCR is that coursework is 60%, the terminal task is 15%. So if you get very good marks in those too, it doesn't matter too much if you don't do as well on the listening.
I am really worried about tomorrow, and have revised solidly all day, and still haven't got anywhere. It is just how we've rushed through the course, and I won't do as well as I could have done.

Listening kicked ######! I totally ruled! I well got an A*!!! They played Queen - I was able to write the answers before I heard the song! Beautiful!

I did OCR, I think I do alright, but the Baroque question was quite misleading - no harpsichord!
Puff cat
May 24 2005, 01:03 PM
Do you mean the one which started off with two flutes? Was it really Baroque? Oh dear. I wrote 'classical'. What did you think of the last question about salsa at a carnival?

i said classical as well but all my reasons applied to baroque music (don't know what I was thinking there) so at least I'll get some marks for it.

It was apparently Baroque. It was touch and go though, one trill really, and a bass continuo. Also, the next question was on Classical music, so I thought they wouldn't ask you about it twice.
I didn't like the Pavane and Galliard question.
For the last question, all I could think of was the lively, syncopated rhythms make you want to dance and that it was a happy style, and carnivals were for celebrating!!

May 24 2005, 01:41 PM
Yeah the one with the 2 flutes was a bit misleading! I thought Classical at first but then I thought it might be Baroque because it had trills in it and a basso continuo. Quite a few people wrote Classical, my friend did and my teacher had had a quick look at the papers and i thought she could have quite cheerfully murdered him at that moment! Lol. And that last one...why??? Had anyone actually heard of the 2 names in the 1st box?

montuno and something else?
our teacher told us what that was 5 minutes before we started and its basically just call and response with the solo singer and then chorus responding so i got that. anyone else notice that there seemed to be loads of questions on call and response/question and answering phrasing?

That sounds a bit suspicious, did you see the seal on the papers being opened at the start of the exam?!

May 24 2005, 03:57 PM
i dont think she did because the exam started 15 minutes laters because the papers were at the other school site, but the way she came in and told us stuff about it and also plainchant which we hadnt done before makes me a bit suspicious. i saw the cds in sealed bags but the papers were already set out in a different room so i dont know

Did anyone do the Edexcel one.....and if so....the last section and especially the last question it was sooooooo difficult. Totally guessed it but looknig at the 2003 grade boundaries i need slightly over 1/2 marks to get an A*

For the ocr one, is it the baroque thing that was opera or something? i put baroque but thought that the instrument was recorder! we hadnt done montuno and choro wither but we did pregon and choro which is call and response so i figured that it was the same thing. the last question though...carnival? i put that is was fast and it sounded happy so people would want to dance to it!why was it worth 4 marks??????????????????The second waltz, the modern one...was it gymnopedie by satie?

I have absolutely no idea why it was worth 4 marks, that was a mad question! Yes it was, I was quite surprised when that came up. It's a beautiful piece though, stopped me panicking so much!

May 24 2005, 08:07 PM
It was definitely Satie, but I thought Gymnopedie was for solo piano...am I confused?

No, you're right, it usually is, I think they just arranged it for different instruments.

For the last OCR question, all I could think of was the syncopated and lively rhythms made you want to dance, and it created a happy mood, which is what you wanted in a carnival!

Hi nicki_flute! What did you think of English Literature this morning? I was alright with the drama and poetry essays, but got a bit stuck on the short story analysis. Were you doing OCR?

No, I was doing WJEC, it went well I thought, which was good as I was really worried about it. I hope yours went well.

. The only thing was, my hand wanted to commit suicide 1/2 way through, I ended up writing 13 pages!

Sounds like a lot more people did OCR for GCSE music here this year- last year we all seemed to be doing Edexcel, and before that I think a lot of people did AQA. It's funny how things go... Anyway, I'm sure everybody did fine, and good luck with the rest of your exams!

Question 2b naming six techniques they used in club music i found really hard! I prefer skeleton scores so am glad there was a big juicy one of those at the end!
what did anyone else think?

i did edexcel! it woz greeeeat apart from the new directions in western music or woteva its called!! i had no idea wot to write for ques 4! the rest woz fun though, we had 'the tide is high' for reggae! and an easy serialism piece!! wow amazing shocking! i answered nearly the whole gamelan question without hearing it and the fusions were great! the indian woz a bit difficult but ah well, the beginning woz good so im confident!
its worth 40% for edexcel (30% composing and 30% performance)

I did edexcel music too. I thaught it was quite a nice exam. That minimalism piece was really nice! lol I'm really bad at gamelan and indian classical music - so I dont think I did very well on that - but the rest was fine.
