I'm just finishing my 2nd year studying piano at uni. I've just finished doing schubert impromptu No.4 in Aflat, Debussy prelude No.4 from book 1 and bach's prelude and fugue in Dminor for my exam. My teacher has told me that he wants me to decide which pieces to play over my summer holidays. The only one he has given me is Mozart's concerto in Amajor K.414 mvt..does anyone have any suggestions on anything i could have a listen to and possibly begin to play?
i'm esp thinking of a liszt or possibly a slow mvt from a sontata by beethoven but i'd really appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks

The slow movement of Beethoven's Appassionata Sonata is very beautiful, also the slow movement of the Pathetique, which is very famous. Some of the other Debussy preludes are also lovely, eg la cathedrale engloutie, de pas sur la neige, girl with the flaxen hair....
Maybe you could think about learning a whole sonata? With all summer free it shouldn't be impossible. Some of Beethoven's are quite hard but Schubert and Mozart have written many lovely sonatas. I'm playing Schubert's sonata op.120 in A major at the moment, for DipABRSM in July. His A minor sonatas are also worth looking at.
Liszt is generally difficult but you could try the consolation no. 3 in D flat, a very romantic piece. There are also the 'trois etudes de concert' if you're up for a challenge. Liszt wrote tons of stuff, so have a look.
