I get rung up from time to time for lessons and don't usually have any spaces and I am a bit stuck as to who else to suggest and so I was quite interested in putting together a list of all the local teachers in my area (with their permission of course) to put up in the local music shop and library.
Does this happen in any other places? If so, how does it work? Not everyone has access to the internet, and there aren't many names there anyway.
Do you think this is worth pursuing? Would you as teachers mind being asked to 'go on a list' if you were asked in your area?
Thanks

I would have no objection in this context.

It could be worth doing - how are you going to find out who your local teachers are? I'm sure there are many who, like me, don't advertise as they have as many pupils as they need. I have business cards at the local music shop, but these are kept in a drawer for serious enquiries only.
If I get calls asking for lessons which I can't deal with I suggest they contact the local ABRSM representative, whose phone number is in the Examination regulations and information booklet, who at least will know who puts pupils in for exams. They are not allowed to recommend anyone, but they can give phone numbers (with permission from the teacher concerned).

My local music shop do just that. I have a waiting list now so if anyone rings I give them the phone number.

The library here has a list they keep for enquiries... (some sort of register) have your asked at your local library? They may do it already in some form, then all you have to do is refer people there...

Our local music shop and AB Exam Centre both hold comprehensive lists of teachers.
