The pianist is a great film isn't it? Sooooo thoughtful though.

The Pianist is life-changing to say the least.

I watched it with my then 7-yr old girl (since it is a war film we thought it may be violent, etc so one of us had to sit with her and explained a lot of things in the film). Boy oh boy, did it change her viewpoint! Almost two years later, I have to say that THAT change was permanent. It's a bit like the time we took her on a trip to the poorer parts of the Far East and especially China where she saw how other folks lived. That was life-changing, too. BUT The Pianist is cheaper! It has a great score, too, at the end.

It is a must-see!

You MUST try to see it! It's based on a true story of a Jewish concert pianist hiding from the Nazis in wartime Poland. It's an amazing film, incredibly moving and with the most wonderful music. It's unmissable and available on DVD.

watching that film is the only time i usually get tears. You almost dont know whether to laugh that he escaped going to the camps, or to cry about what the nazis done.

ive got the dvd, ive seen it about um, 4 times since i got it last april.
The main thing i think has been done well, is that its not a big stinky hollywood blockbuster where some american comes and saves the day, its a really good portrayal of what it was like for the pianist guy szpilman.

I this a film now???

I think I have the book.....is it Wladyslaw Szpilman?

He played a Chopin nocturne on Polish radio as it closed down during Nazi occupation, managed against incredible odds to survive the war and played the same Chopin piece as the first thing broadcast by Polish radio after the war.

If you saw the "Holocaust" concert on TV earlier this year Manny Ax played the same piece at the begining of that programme from the ruins of Auschwitz. Very very moving
