wink.gif wink.gif wink.gif Hi Mars,
You have me curious now ... with this new topic. I meant to ask these questions in May 2006!

What exactly happened at your audition after the name introductions? What instruments did you play? Did you have to play two instruments? And what pieces???

What ARE "contrasting" pieces? huh.gif

Finally, what was the purpose of your audition? To get a place (as undergraduate) in a music conservatory or was it for one at Sat Music School?

Thanks! smile.gif

Tess, contrasting pieces are pieces which are totally different to each other to show you can play in a number of styles. E.g for an audition I am doing soon, I am playing a slow CPE Bach movement, with a modern, fast, jazz piece.

Mars - Wow, it sounds like it went really well, I look forward to hearing some good exam results and you being whatever you were auditioning for ( unsure.gif sorry - forgotten)

Gee, this forum is sooo friendly biggrin.gif
Weelllll.......I auditioned for the Cork School of Music!
Cork rocks. (It's Ireland's second city). It has a really excellent strings dept. I auditioned on violin. Played two of my exam pieces: "Vivace" by Telemann & "Étude Rythmique No. 1" by Martinu. God, I love that last piece smile.gif Its sooooo much fun to play smile.gif
Then I had to play two easy scales- 2 octs. D and G ('cept I played 3 by mistake...so used to it).
I talked about me.... a bit. Had to explain how yes, I was born in Ireland. Yes I have lived here all my life. Yes, my Dad's Filipino & Mam's Irish.....get that a lot....

I'm hoping to study there in Sept. '05. Currently I'm at a local music school. I'm still in secondary school and @ the mo I'm meant to be studying Gaeilge agus Ealoin...(think I spelt that wrong). Does anyone speak Irish here? An bhfuil aon Gaeilgoirí anseo????? Le do thol!!!
Mars
....I think not ^

Hi Tess,
Forgot to tell you:
I'm hoping to get a place in the CSM (Cork Sch. of Music) from Sept this year onwards. Ideally they'll offer me a Friday evening lesson. Perhaps a Sat. although I'm not sure if they work on Sat....it's weird.
As I said, the Strings Dept. is top class. I know a few of the teachers including the Head of Strings and she's so lovely. smile.gif
Fingers crossed I'll get in * crosses fingers tightly *

My pieces were both fast: vivace and allegro (I think!!! laugh.gif ) So in a way they weren't completely contrasting. Although they were from completely different eras. Vivace= Baroque & Étude= 20th C.

What do you play/sing/are you a music lover??? smile.gif
Tess
Music lover who sings smile.gif ...
carys
Glad they went well, especially your audition - sounds like they were very impressed, well done.
