I didn't do too badly I suppose but for some reason I was sooooo nervous my face was burning up. I wasn't expecting the impromptu audience and so hadn't really practised it .....

You had no need to worry. I last played it over a year before I played it with you. Much rust was there...

just spotted I'd missed this:
ditto!!!
I am aware of my own current inadequacies on clarinet but I'm determined to keep moving forward. Our band is likely to be getting some more clari players. As well as some new 3rds there are some grade 8s coming in and one's an ex member. I'm very protective of my place and as I am desperately clawing myself up I worry that because I don't have grade 8 on paper I may be overlooked and these new players may be slotted into firsts role..... I know that if they are better than me then they should get that role but also that sitting on 2nd week in, week out, never missing a week or a concert in the last 18 months or more and filling in on higher parts where necessary should also count for something too.
Of course i may be bothering about nothing as this might not happen .....

I doubt they'll consider that : remember they know what you can do, and how loyal and reliable you are, and I think that'll count for a lot.

In my band, I started on 3rd, went up to 1st, went back to 2nd, then back up to 1st before ending up as lead clarinet...
