*passes Maggie a coffee*
*sigh* I am worried about whether I doing enough self study/revision out of school - nobody has really told us how much. I just find that with my weeks being so varied (for instance this week, I'll have Muisc twilight after school, netball training, flute lesson and concert) I can't plan a timetable...I just don't want to end up not doing as well as I want too.
Also, my Sociology teacher (well one of them) wants me to get 100% UMS marks...pressure or what?
Mmmm thanks - that's better.
I know what you mean about getting into a timetable - if every week is different you don't get the same feeling of confidence that you're on top of things. The start of this term was like that for me, although it's settled down a bit now.
I'm sure you are doing well and aren't going to disappoint anyone. 100% does sound like pressure - yes! but they obviously feel you are capable of coping with everything. Have you got a year tutor or someone you could talk to? it's very difficult to keep going without much feedback.

Well we're having "MEG" (minimum expected grade) interviews at the moment. I have only had 1 so far, the Sociology one.
We just haven't had any guidance about self study - I know people will just look at my GCSE grades and say I can cope, or when I talked to my History teacher she said I was too much of a perfectionist (she knows how worried I get, I had her at GCSE).
I really want if I can 4 As, because I work really hard in school, and always try my best and believe I am capable of them. I just don't want to give myself a mountain to climb at the beginning of A2.

Anyhoo, am off to bed now! Got orchestra at 10:30 tomorrow morning! See you all tomorrow!

Katyjay, you are not serious, I hope? Commercialisation. I DO like fireworks but the novelty wears off if it goes on for well over a week every day!
Choddy, do you go to orchestra on Sunday? I've never heard of that! Usually it's on Saturdays! Besides it's half term now, isn't it? So yours is an incredibly ambitious orchestra?

I don't mean that in a cheeky sense, of course.

Oh yes, of course! Silly me! Now I recall... that the Midlands concert will take place a week after our Easter break.

*sigh*
In some countries like Singapore, HK and Malaysia, the school holidays are decided on a national basis.

Hey Nicki,
Have you come across "Learn How to Study" by Derek Rowntree? It's very readable and absolutely brilliant! Very practical and written for students of all ages but personally I'd recommend it for GCSEs and upwards. If you don't find it helpful, I'll chop off my head!

Ask your library to order it so it won't cost you a thing! In some libraries, it's free if one is under 12, in other libraries, 16 and under. Or, if you have a younger sis/bro, you can order on his/her card - it's perfectly OK.

Yeah, Trebor, well spotted. We went to Tower of London and they told us some subjects/queens were unloved and it took many chops like abt 8/9 attempts or something like that to get one particular head off! Uggh!
Whoops, sorry, I spoilt someone's late breakfast, for sure.

"I can't be bothered" is an unusual conclusion to an essay. Sociology, is it?
nicki_flute
Oct 30 2005, 01:37 PM
It is...the thing is, that I am not sure what I am writing is right - the question is quite vague as is the teacher. The conclusion isn't a simple one, I have to think about it, and I just don't think what I have planned is good enough. (Especially since the Sociology teachers want me to get 100% UMS marks - 16/20 (A) for an essay apparently isn't good enough)

Just realised I won't be able to log on to the forums on the 6th November for the Awards Ceremony because I'm getting a new computer fitted to replace this one. This might mean we might have to postpone it until the next Saturday or something.
