Morning all!
I am going to set out my plans on here and if I don't achieve them then you'll all be able to see:
1. Finish Biology revision in revision guide
2. Go through Chemistry book, learn equations for ammonia and calculations. Practice them.
3. Start Physics revision, on space
4. Learn equations mneumonic
5. If all this is finish, flute practice, but only when it is done.

Nicki,
One of these days I'll have to teach you about effective revision. The best approach is as follows:
1. Note weather, and decide whether it's an in-the-house day or an in-the-garden day
2. Select comfy chair in location chosen in step 1
3. Select cd or tape of relaxing music and machine to play it on.
4. Select novel or other relaxing reading material
5. Choose long cool drink to refresh you
6. Chill in chair listening to music, sipping long cool drink and reading.
This works - your brain will unwind and all the stuff you learned all this and last year will settle in your memory, rather than being distorted by trying to cram it all in again at short notice.
and I forgot:
7. Flute practice when you've finished the book / the sun's gone in / you're bored of sitting still.
Seriously, if you've worked at least reasonably hard all year in school (and I'd be staggered if you hadn't) you will already know all the stuff you're now trying to revise, and being relaxed and rested will help it come to memory a lot more easily.
Cheers

Weather noted - blue skies, sun. I'll check the pollen count first though.
The thing is that I will relax, I promise, but I didn't do any revision yesterday, and this module for Science are my worst ones all put together. Stuff like a really long pattern of the life cycle of a star. For Maths, which is on Wednesday (oh no), Maths paper 1 went really badly, and so to get my marks up again I'll need to be on top form for this. So I can't stop and relax. Plus I did nothing yesterday, I am really annoyed at myself for not doing anything.
Thanks for your tips though

9 days to go until they're over - WOOOOOO

OK, if you MUST revise, make the book you take out to the garden (or over to the comfy chair) one of your text books. But try to be as relaxed as you can while reading through it. I'm not kidding - stress mucks up your memory and relaxation brings it back. Doing nothing yesterday was probably the best thing.
cheers

Right well.
Green plants obtain nitrogen in the form of nitrates from the soil. Nitrogen is an important element in the making of proteins in plants and animals.
Animals cannot use nitrogen directly, so they eat green plants in order to obtain nitrogen. Of course, animals also eat other animals, to get their nitrogen.
Any decaying matter is broken down my microbes (peutrifying bacteria) into ammonium compunds. By the time that microbes and other organisms which break down decaying matter have finished, almost all the energy originally captured by the green plant has been recycled. Such organisms which break down decaying matter are called detrius feeders.
That was all from memory, I haven't finished it yet, so I'll finish my talk in another 1/2 an hour. Doesn't look like much but it is a lot when you're memorising stuff.

Jun 13 2005, 09:26 AM
Ahh sorry, did I get your hopes up about a new form of transport?
Erm, well the nitrogen cycle is taking ages to learn but after that there is about 3 pages of common sense which shouldn't take too long and then the Biology module should be finished.

Hmm yeah a Nitrogen powered cycle, it would have to be painted leafy green and have a special nitrates grabbing scoop on the front that scoops up the soil and pulls all the nitrates out in a long chain.
It pops them into a big vat on the back of the Nitrogen Cycle where there are lots of tiny microbes (small creatures a bit like small bees, well actually Micro-be(e)s, they smell a bit as they a peutrifying bacteria!) which jump on the nitrates to break them all up into ammonium compounds. All this generates a load of heat (energy) which then is funnelled into a detrius feeder (looks like a green Pac-man) and keeps up its energy levels enough for it to pedal the Nitrogen Cycle so fast that it gets you to school faster than the bus.
Have I understood it properly?

Yes we could call the thread "Heath Robinson"
I always fancied having a "Washing Wardrobe". Its a cross between a wardrobe and washing machine. You hang your clothes up in it at night and when you open it up next morning they are all clean, freshly laundered and pressed and ready to wear. Just need to work out the technological bits as all prototypes have so far failed to work.

As long as no-one eats the last slice it will last forever. Just have to make sure we just keep cutting slices off the cakes and pies, and never give anyone the last one.
Another invention, an everlasting chocolate cake, always fresh, always creamy and chocolatey, and always comes in BIG slices. Mmmmm
