True, but it's only my second year of such benevolence, so I'm taking nothing for granted

Can you recommend a book or two of technical exercises for the clari which I can get to grips with? I really want to get my teeth into the "correct" way to do things, and not rush on at the expense of the basics.... Thx!!

After an hour with me you won't dare to get anything wrong!

Your purchases over the weekend should see you right to start with, but you summed it up perfectly yourself - don't rush on! I know your new toy should be arriving shortly, but try to resist the temptation to play it when it arrives (but if you really can't wait, we might be able to bring your lesson forward). Beyond that, we'll see how you get on, and if there are any areas which obviously need improvement.
I like the idea of you and Pig sitting on a packed commuter train doing off-instrument breathing and tongueing exercises

Yes, mistress!

Can I get it out the box, put it together and snuggle up to it in bed?

<frantically fights urge to post extremely crude comments> If you must, although how would mrsbouffant feel about that? I'd advise against it (i) in case you roll over during the night and damage it; and (ii) in case you damage it by putting it together clumsily. Have it on the bedside table, so that it's the last thing you see in the evening, and the first thing you see in the morning. Entirely up to you whether you want to give your clarinet a goodnight kiss each evening.

don't forget the cork grease. one must make sure tenons fit properly unless the tube is too big then you got problems.

bouffy, in case you were wondering, I was actually referring to your clarinet! You need to ensure that the cork joints are greased enough so that you can assemble it without any problems, and that it comes apart easily as well.
Cork grease is fairly revolting stuff, tea isn't. Anyone care for a cuppa?

bouffy, I thought being able to do running repairs was part of the skill of being an organist, and organists only got a man in to fix their instrument for the bigger jobs that require more than simple DIY skills.

Morning all. Just about to embark on my first teaching task since my little setback. Got quite used to being waited on.

Morning diapason, good to see you up and about again. Hope you've got some of your less stressful pupils lined up this morning, and not the chunky one with a foul mouth who think he knows everything.
Do you think you could train your pupils to bring you refreshments, meals and medication as required?
Not sure about this being a family forum - I actively discourage Husband from dropping in!

<hides her cassock and surplice just in case SirPrancealot gets the wrong idea and makes a bad situation worse>
Friend of mine is a vicar's daughter, and her father had a small rural parish. There was a power cut just in time for midnight mass one year, so no heating, no lighting, and no electric blowers for the organ. Her brother was then bribed to operate the bellows manually, so was working away in t-shirt and jeans, getting warmer and warmer all the time, whilst the rest of the congregation were wrapped up in hundreds of layers, gently shivering by candlelight.
