And on the last day (the 21st), we only stay for half the day because it is the end of term.

Jul 14 2005, 02:46 PM
I think that that is a standard thing that all schools do at the end of term/year

Plus I'm stuck writing coursework at the moment on osmosis. Any ideas on what my aim could be? I'm totally stuck.
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Jul 14 2005, 05:10 PM
for osmosis are you doing the potato tissue thing? If so.. MY aims were:
Aim
1.To test a range of sucrose solutions and to see how the concentrations affect the net movement of water in/out of potato tissue by osmosis.
2.To find an accurate concentration where there is no net movement of water.
3.To evaluate techniques for measuring the uptake/loss of water in potato tissues, and to comment on their accuracy.
i got full marks for my biology...yay!

How many aims would I need to get good marks then? I just assumed that we only had to have one aim. And what do you mean about evaluating the techniques? How did you do that?

Check your syllabus. If you haven't got as copy, ask for one.

Good and bad things about the procedure, any factors outside your control e.g. room temperature, what you could have done better with the design of the actual experiment etc etc
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Jul 14 2005, 06:52 PM
evaluation is just about how you did what you did and how to improve things...eg accuracy of results. That's why is good not to do everything perfectly because then you'll have nothing to talk about!

Morning everyone!
Supposed to be going on a course today and neither of my parents can take me, so I have to get a bus into town and then go to this college. I have only today worked out, that they directed me to the wrong college. So now I have to get a taxi....

Had a great holiday - the real chocolate dog had a brilliant time going on new walks, meeting the locals, (the males of which found her rather nice as she chose that week of all weeks to become highly interesting to them!!) and learning how to negotiate stiles and kissing gates!

chocolatedog
Jul 15 2005, 10:31 AM
A cottage in the southern end of the Lake District - right out in the country. Very peaceful and relaxing - could only hear the sounds of birds and cows (in the surrounding fields!) And because English schools haven't yet finished for the summer the roads and towns were extremely quiet too - which was definitely a plus point! (The minus point is that Scottish schools go back in the middle of August so I'll be back at work in the middle of summer!)

Just popped in - have been away at my conference - "Head Chefs in the 21st Century".
To Fry Or Not To Fry - this question plus many other culinary conundrums were all debated and discussed, and we all came out with egg on our faces. So you're in good hands here folks!

[nods encouragingly to reassure everyone].
Omelette anyone?
