Nice one YAP - is your degree Maths?
Computer Science, but I did 1/3rd maths in the first year. It's good fun

. I might go back and do some more with the OU in a few years' time, after my planned music studies with them.

Thought so. Maths is very pleasing - too long since I did any now though - forgotten it all...

Hi everyone! Had a fantastic composition workshop this afternoon, shame that the head of creative arts decides to move the deadline to next Tuesday - we'd been told it was next Thursday for about 4 weeks now!

Awww! And when I told him that it was stupid to move the deadline and that he wouldn't be having my composition on Tuesday (because it would be very hard to get it finished), he says "Well then I'll have company when I have to stay late after school on Wednesday!"

Southampton!!!

I can confirm that Southampton does indeed have a university, as well as occasional visits from both WNO and Glyndebourne Touring.
nicki, although the course is obviously important, think about what else you want. How likely are you to get the grades required? (I have a hunch the answer will be "extremely" for most courses!) How close do you want to be to your parents? Do you want to be in a large city? Go to a few open days and see if you feel at home at the university in question.
And think how close you'd be to Oddball if you went to Bath or Bristol

Well, I should think I am quite likely to get the grades. I'm getting As in all 3 essay subjects, but haven't a clue where I am for Music. I think at most, 3 hours away. Large city...I'd probably prefer to be somewhere a bit smaller, and not as busy. I am going to go to a few open days, am emailing unis a few questions.
I've emailed Bristol

grr have had such a depressing day. Got school photos back, not bad but sparked big thing on 'we only have a few months of year 11 left, lets all try not to cry'

And then went to joint talent thing at lunch which was basically a way of reminding all of us how sad it is to be in a single sex school without a prom date

Managed to forget bus fare so had to plead with bus driver (phew he was really nice) to let me on for 45p
and THEN have now gotten home to find parents in a blazing row over...wait for it...MOBILE PHONES!

*wishes she could tell them to grow up*

*goes back upstairs to do pile of coursework*

How's the viola suite coming along?
Nicki: Durham is very good for the academic side, for being small and friendly, but also having a big city right nearby (Newcastle) to go visit.
On the minus side it's some hours from the SW.....

We had our year 11 photos on Monday - no one warned us in advance. Picture 250 year 11 pupils + form tutors and senior staff standing on a rickety metal contraption which shakes in the wind and every time someone moves - and I was halfway up! Then, one of the photographers left his mobile phone charging in the gym and it was stolen so a HUGE lecture in assembly the next day!

3 movements written but need to improve them, some ideas for final movement. It needs recording though - and the head of creative arts was stupid enough to move the deadline from next Thursday to next Tuesday - despite my protests!

Don't let me affect your uni plans dude.
Sounds like a bad day CPPF! MY parents argue over the stupidest things. Like cutting the grass, washing the car. My dad and my sister are even worse. They yell at each across the house and ask each other whether they have seen this or that. Then get annoyed becuase they can't hear the other person talking.... argh....

Nicki, be prepared for a somewhat biased view from cheeble! That said, Sarah and mrbouffant have both already demonstrated just how biased people can be towards their alma mater. You're likely to enjoy your time at university no matter where you end up (with the possible exception of the exams!); I know I had a whale of a time, and Husband still has fond memories of his time at Cambridge.
