Hey guys,
Sorry you had a rubbish day Nicki. If it's any concelation, my day wasn't that great either. I'm really beginning to think that I need to change clarinet teachers; I don't seem to be pushed at all by my current teacher. Only problem is though, that I get free lessons at school, and obviously I'd have to pay for them if I went elsewhere.

Stressful as most days are

Ahem young lady, stop stressing, and stop stressing NOW, or I shall be forced to wield MY pointy stick (and that really will give you cause for stress!).
Hmmmmmmmmmmm

And everyone says I'll be fine but I really don't think I will be.

Nicki, the more you stress, the worse you'll perform, so stop worrying! You were like this before your GCSEs and look at the results you got after we told you to stop worrying. You're really, really clever, so don't panic.
If I go back to my point about school,
"Teachers tell a group of students to work harder; the people who do need to work harder don't, and the people who don't need to work do!"
So don't panic! If you're worrying (this is broad generalisation) then you obviously don't need to work harder, because if you did you wouldn't care!

<sharpens pointy stick and brandishes it in a menacing fashion> Did I just catch you being negative?
Does anyone else remember the young flautist who used to hang around here last summer? She got herself into a real tizz over her GCSEs, only to end up doing extremely well in all of them. I think her username was nicki_flute or something like that.
Nicki, you WILL be fine. Any more of that talk and I'll tell katyjay and sbhoa.
Anyway, off to rustle up a culinary disaster treat before going out for a sing and then a pint. Have a nice evening everyone.

Hey everyone
Nicki, I sympathise with you, because my first exam is in 13 days!

And it's also a subject I'm not totally comfortable in.... I just can't get my head round the fact that I'm actually doing my GCSEs in a few weeks time.
On the other hand, joining in with the pointy-stick wielders sounds like fun.

You're allowed to moan, but we're just trying to convince you that you needn't worry. A little bit of nervousness if fine, maybe good in some cases, but if you wind yourself up too much you'll get too stressed, go into the exam thinking that you're going to fail, and then you just might screw it up. Relax, you'll be fine. Take regular breaks and do your work in little chunks. Just DON'T do what my brother did the other day and stay up until 6 in the moring doing coursework that was due in the next day. That's NOT a good idea!

Just back briefly before I really do run away to burn a salad or something - one of my best friends has just phoned to say that her baby girl was born on Wednesday morning.

Mother and baby are doing fine.
Altogether now: "Aah".
Looks like I might just have to pay a visit to her to coo over the newborn.
Oh, and baby said to tell Nicki not to worry, as she's bound to pass all her AS exams with flying colours.

Absolutely. Keep things in perspective - if the absolute worst happened and you failed your exams, you can retake, you can rethink your options, there are loads of possibilities. Reflect on what a healthy, wealthy country we live in, and on the fact that your education has been laid on for you, and really, even if you failed miserably, you're still lucky. You have food, money, parents who love you, a home... life is good

even if it can stress you out sometimes.
There are quite a few people on here who didn't do as well as they'd hope in their A Levels. It doesn't seem to have slowed them down too much.
And besides which, you're going to do great anyway so DON'T WORRY!
