I've just made my room even more of a tip by looking for my 3/4 length jeans, which hardly ever make an appearance! This has to be spotless by this afternoon!

For Question 1, it was Vultures and What Were They Like, and Question 2, it was This Room and Blessing. For Section B, I did Q5, Describe Yourself. Which questions did you do?
Hey CE!

Hi CE
I did question 2, This Room and Search For My Toungue, and for section B i did question 6 (i wrote 3 on the front of the paper by accident though) describe an event and explain how it had changed you - i did Ten Tors.

Which question did you choose on the Paper 1? Argue, Persuade, Advise, or combination?

Hi everyone, just got back from English.
Did Vultures and Two Scavengers and did question 6 - I talked about death.
How's everyone?

Jun 8 2006, 03:11 PM
Hey Rainbow! I'm fine thanks, how are you?
I completely mucked the English paper up - I did both of the first two questions instead of just one! But we hadn't had any practice on Paper 2... For Section B, I did Question 5, describe yourself.

I'm ill again

and my exam officer phoned home to tell my dad to make a doctor's appointment!
Can you get an A* for question 6 if you started with a vivid description/anecdote to draw the reader in and used lots of similes, metaphors and adverbs and adjectives?
My choice of Two Scavengers to compare with Vultures was probably slightly unusual!
Wobby, don't stress about answering two questions, I was looking at a markscheme and they mark both and then count the one with the highest mark.

Hmm... shame they don't add up the marks, take a percentage and then times it by 100/54...
But I guess marking the higher one is better than nothing. Just hope it's enough!
You should be able to get an A* for Question 6 - you make it sound as if vivid description, anecdotes and imagery is bad when in fact it will greaten your chance of getting an A*!

If anyone else did Cluster 1, if you had to compare the way the poets present people in Vultures and one other poem, would it be ok to pick Two Scavengers?
jonscott14
Jun 8 2006, 03:33 PM
I would think so, as there is alot about presentation in charactors in scavengers.
Rainbow
Jun 8 2006, 03:34 PM
I put loads of stuff about contrasts and similarities and about the way people are presented as inherently both good and evil in Vultures and about the reality of the American Dream in Two Scavengers.
Wobby
Jun 8 2006, 03:34 PM
Yes, it actually may have been a better choice than my comparison of What Were They Like to Vultures...
JS - I did argue too, it was the easier one I found...

I was tempted to do What Were They Like? but wasn't that sure about it (it was the last poem that I revised and I'd got so fed up by then). One of my friends did Nothing's Changed.

In question two some people did half caste, but i wouldn't have thought the'd find much imagery in that one?
Rainbow
Jun 8 2006, 03:39 PM
Did a lot of people study both clusters in school? We only studied Cluster 1, which is a shame as some of the Cluster 2 poems seem interesting, especially Unrelated Incidents, Half-Caste and Love After Love. Couldn't they have used Love After Love for its religious imagery?
jonscott14
Jun 8 2006, 03:41 PM
Yep, some people did indeed chose love after love, although not for its religious imagery - but yes thats a good point that i think many people missed, we only did cluster two, but we did do scavengers as an extra, i would have dont that, but i didn't know anything about vultures.

Funny, they told us they were pretty good questions before we sat down! They weren't too bad, just wish we had had at least some practice for that paper, as I was expecting it to be like Paper 1 (which we had overly prepared for) - do all of Section A, then one choice on Section B.

That would have been quite a good choice actually, you'd have a lot to write about. Even though I only used half the time I should have on the first paper, I was still running short on ideas of what to write!QUOTE(jonscott14 @ Jun 8 2006, 04:37 PM)

It could actually be the fact that half-caste is overall a metaphor, but yeah, your right, I might not have picked half-caste: never liked that poem much anyway, much like 'Homecoming' - too confusing!
