I don't know about the homework in China but here you have to write lines of the same word for a few lines and it gives your hamds cramp. Then you had to memorise passages and poems.

I think im going to refuse to go back next year because i'll have enough to do with schol anyway and its not like i learn anything as i never listen and just do school work instead. That's weird because I was just reading my Chinese school (homework lol not out of my own free choice)!!! Chinese is becoming more popular as a language because apparently there's soooo many business contracts now going there. They have wicked keyrings and stationary though and I got my Shrek/HarryPotter/ Bounrne Supremacy DVDs from there and none of them cost over £1.50!

Life, The Universe and Everything.
It's just a general chat place really for stuff too trivial to start a new thread for.
In short Tess, its about everything, from people just chatting to each other, ordering food/drinks in the cafe. Some of it is quite funny in places and some is just waffle.

I figured in the short term - a sense of humour, in the long run be it friendship or marriage it's commitment. I said this only bec I'm very committed to my old (not age, man) friends and some were surprised I didn't happen to drop them like hot iron when I had hubby and then very ill kids. Not to my credit I have to confess - it's just that I write a letter for relaxation when worn out and for amusement when not!
Some say security/money and common interests. What do you folks think?
Secondly, an upshot of the same discussion was also an opinion that there is no such thing as (female) friendship with a man! Platonic relationships one said is but a disguise on the part of a man/woman to get you!

I think their personality and whether or not they believe in me and don't just see me as a "clever" person. Also whether I can trust them.

John and I have been together now for *cough* years. We "met" when he was 4 days old and I was just born . Started "going out" at 19 and got married at 23.
I think it lasts because we are actually very good friends. Obviously we have our ups and downs and troublesome patches, but because we are best friends we sort it out.
I have other male friends, and I would not say that I feel these relationships are purely platonic. In another life they could well have been more than friends, but when you're committed to one person then....well you stay committed to one person.

4 days old? Wow, this is really something for a book... I've always wanted to write a book.
(Maybe some day, I'll put together my poems on relationships and growing old in one place and have them published. I like writing poems based on real life, people's difficulties as a result of constructive, positive discussions.)
But I do agree with you, Jane, that in the long term, it is commitment.
If you don't mind me asking... what about the short term initial stage? Excluding appearances, that is...

Well when he first asked me out when were 19, I already knew him as a person so there was not that initial "Wow I fancy you!" stage. I knew him as an homest caring sort of person which is important.
He also had an open-top Triumph Spitfire which helped
