Got back from driving lesson, which is surprisingly soothing. I think it's just I got told "it's suprising how a player of your calibre does *this* *demonstrates how I played*". From my end it was not too bad. I kept with her even when she came in a beat too early in one and too late in the other and the speed was variable.

Yes, especially with someone who really doesn't appear to be properly ready for the exam.
I'd done some work on the pieces with her that should have been her teacher's responsibility (like playing in time) but in 4 sessions 2 weeks before the exam there are limits.

I did get some background on the teacher.....
He doesn't like exam preparation and tells them that he won't do any aural training if they want to be entered fo exams apparently.
I'm told he also has a fairly high student turnover rate.
He doesn't tell those entered for exams anything about the exam process so they don't really know what happens on the day or how results are sent out.

The only one I ever got was grade 1 clarinet (and all my theory exams).
I've only had merit twice too and that was only just both times.

Well I got one in Grade 5 theory, out of grade 1-5 with AB, I got 2 lowish merits and 1 high. But I don't think of myself as being good enough

January - well apart from my module exam and huge coursework deadlines, I suppose I'll have responses from unis. But they could be 3 rejections.

This saves me from having someone who doesn't know how things will work dropping things on me at the last mniute. Last year i was told that someone would play the introduction and an instrumental verse in a carol. Trouble was I then had to spend part of the afternoon transposing the organ part to fit. When I asked what key they would be playing in I was asked whether it mattered....
This year I will decide what is played. We have 2 clarinets and a cornet so i want to arrange a couple of carols to be accompanied by them rather than piano and maybe something with a mixture.
We are having a rehearsal after church on Sunday morning so I have to get it done.
