I can't believe I havn't heard of him.. Normally Mom would be screaming at anyone who is reasonably good, and it sounds like he is!

Oh, no, he's not a big player! He is ranked 100 and something in the world, and hasn't been in a senior final before. Infact, despite the fact he beat the likes of Luberchic (sp?) and Nadal, he has to go and qualify for Wimbledon
It's sad he didn't win.
Gah. Really must go and finish Russian workers.

I have a physics assignment for Tuesday and more than enough math to do... Why do I let it creep up on me like this!?
nicki_flute
Jun 17 2007, 04:11 PM
Hehe. I have a History exam tomorrow! I'm going to finish revision in a minute...I only have a few mins of work to do.
Rosemary7391
Jun 17 2007, 04:12 PM
Fair enough! I have... *Counts* 4 maths excersizes, and 3/4 sides of Physics to research and type up. So, a good 4 hours most likely..
Good luck with your exam, though I'm sure you won't need it!

What sort of maths?
I'm struggling one a method now. It's division of polynomials, but a way which we haven't done before: working out what degree the polynomial will be, and saying ax^2 + bx + c etc. and then equating co-efficients.
Bah.

How strange. Not seen that before!! I'm doing bits of Chapters 1 and 2 of the C3 book. And sometime I before Friday I have the fun of trying to teach myself Chapter 4

Back. I just hope my revision has been enough.
I went on a shopping trip today to get my mind away from revision, and bought a book, so hopefully I can relax tonight and do well tomorrow.

Have been memorising essay plans and LOADS of statistics- hopefully can talk about how illiteracy in men went down to 4% by 1939 (18% for women).
And 53,234 miles of railroad by 1900!
Oh dear, I am so sad...
nicki_flute
Jun 17 2007, 04:47 PM
Did it!?
I think under Witte, the amount of railway went up by 350%
And, under Great Spurt, Russia's annual production rate was 10%, but this was 20% under Stalin.
oh, and of course, the infamous, Russia was comprised of 80% peasantry!
miss_tickle_thea
Jun 17 2007, 04:51 PM
Well, according to person in my class it did!
I know railroad went up A LOT whatever (right at beginning only 2,200 miles oops, and that was in the textbook so I know that that's true!)
Collectivisation: 60% of farms November 1929-March 1930!
Just hoping that since the Jan questions were so horrible, they might get nicer tomorrow!
I suppose you don't know who it was who said that every generation lived differently from their parents in Russia?
nicki_flute
Jun 17 2007, 04:55 PM
Yes, the January questions were awful! Sometimes they're so nice and clear, but half of them you have to try and decode them!
Er, no, I don't think I've read that.
Oh, in 1955, Krushchev introduced a minimum wage.
I feel like just writing everything I know on Russia haha.
Peasants...workers....industry...agriculture.....constitutions...nationalities...repression...opposition
Oh yeh - what do you know on opposition? and do you know anything about culture?

Culture- somehow don't think it'll come up- if so, shoot me (though only metaphorically!) There's always Bolshoi ballet/ Stravinsky in Tsarist times. Shostakovich every so often stopped having his works played in the Communist era.
Opposition- urgh I hate it! Bolshevik/ Menshevik obviously before they came to power...
Growth of other groups unsatisfied by Al II's reforms (Narodniks, Populists- and the anarchists did assassinate him!)
Nationalist groups unhappy with lack of independence.
Peasants/ workers can be seen as opposition to a degree as well (1476 revolts since 1800 before Emancipation), October Revolution 1905, kulak resistance to collectivisation/ war communism.
nicki_flute
Jun 17 2007, 05:10 PM
I know nothing about culture! I read about Shosti in Oxley!
Thanks a lot. If I had to write about opposition, it would be one long blag.
I think there was a Polish Revolt in 1863...and AIII saw it as a threat and so denied Poland of their independence.
miss_tickle_thea
Jun 17 2007, 05:13 PM
Aaargh i thought it was in 1860!! Oh dear... It came under my suppressed nationalities and the fact that Al II not III as II not dead yet

was not such a nice guy after all.
Culture has never come up before!

What did he do?
miss_tickle_thea
Jun 17 2007, 05:42 PM
Apart from being head of the Red Army, he apparently, according to my history teacher well-practised in rhetoric

"swept the population up into huge industrial armies." Then got kicked off into exile. Missing Lenin's funeral obviously a bad idea. Workers still not happy.
In fact, generally everyone in Russia was usually depressed, although on average they grew 10 cm over 100 years. Hooray.

for tomorrow!

Oh ok! Yes, but Stalin manipulated poor Trotsky!
I think we read somewhere Trotsky had pet rabbits....
