I'm doing Edexel
Paper 1: Performing 30% (one sole, one composition and an ensemble)
Paper 2: Composing 30% (2 compositions written to a brief from diff. areas of study)
Paper 3: Listening and Appraising 40% (1hr and a half exam answering questions on pieces of different music.)

I did GCSE music with MEG in 1998, it was had a similar structure:
30% Performing: two pieces, one had to be played with at least one other performer;
30% Composing: three compositions in different styles;
30% Listening: a written paper answering questions about music played from a provided tape...
The final 10% you could choose to do 'extra' of one of the above three:
extra performing was sightreading; extra composing you were given a theme and shut in a room for 20 minutes to come up with something based on that; and extra listening was just another shorter, but much harder, written listening paper with tape.
Hope that helps.

hello
i'm currently doing my exam with OCR
the exam is based on two compositions, three performances and a listening exam.
i think it breaks into:
listening exam = 25%
termianl task = 15%
compostion = 30%
and performance =30%
it's a nice course. one of your compositions has to be based on a performance piece and is part of 'intergrated coursework'
hope this helps?

Hi Niall,
i did the CCEA NI GCSE Music exam last year (came 2nd in NI!!!). Are you doing it at the moment? What do you think of it? I didn't really like the syllabus much- couldn't stand African Sanctus, although Schubert's Trout Quintet is amazing. I also found it quite hard to relate some of my compositions to the areas of study, although that was totally my own fault- I ended up with a really depressing piece in a minor key that had to be on the theme of 'celebration'! What have you done for your comp?

Ours was on the theme of celebration/special occasion too.
