I have an audition coming up soon, does anyone have any good relaxation tips for beforehand? I did badly in the other one, because i saw the head of woodwind in the music service doing my audition, and she scares me sooo badly. Please reply ASAP!

What instrument do you play? What is the audition for? What grade are you? etc

People could offer more specific advice if they knew this information...

However, don't let your head of Woodwind bother you or put you off! The audition is an opportunity to show them how good you are! I had one conductor who was awful to me ever since I was about eleven. I nearly gave up playing altogether because of him. I was in his orchestra for four years, and he spent the whole time basically telling me I was rubbish. I then got distinction for grade six, quit his orchestra, then didn't see him again for three years until I was in an A-level music class with his daughter (who was very nice). He had to sit through me performing solos which everyone else really liked, then he had to sit through me beating his 'pets' from orchestra to various A-level prizes. Both times, the look on his face was priceless. If you're scared of your head of woodwind, see this audition as your opportunity to do the same... Don't allow one person to put you off to that extent.

Also, it is never panic time! Try to relax and enjoy it. If you've practiced your pieces you can go into the audition feeling prepared, and that is a major source of calmness...

Best of luck,

I had exactly the same thing only last year. Don;t worry you will be fine. The main thing is to really warm up before you play do some scales and stuff. If you look confident that means a lot as well. You'll be fine just play as well as you can and realx if possible. They aren;t out to trick you, they want you to do well even if you think they don't. Best of luck, Lizzie

Hi
Well, I do singing and last night was my high school talent show, that i arranged everything for.I was so stressed through the day that by the time it was my turn to perform with my friends (flute and voice) i was just not even nervous.i was for my solo a bit.i came third with my ensemble, a song i wrote myself and have been asked to organise the show with my teacher next year.anyway, the point of the story is, just think of it as a learning curve.it was for me, and suddenly i just wasnt as nervous.

I just wanted to say i hope u got some help from the last post in time for your audition and i hope it went well - sorry u didn't get help sooner! sad.gif
If you've still got some time, my only advice to add to above would be - you've worked hard for this so you have nothing to worry about really, so instead, focus your mind on how good it will feel to give a fantastic performance - try to visualise doing brilliantly and how amazing that feels. And maybe do some muscle tensing and relaxing with deep slow breathing if you're shaking like a little leaf!!!
I hope it goes / went really well for you! biggrin.gif
