I am playing Debussy 1st arabesque in an audition this weekend - what is the best recording to listen to? I just want to hear other people's interpretations!

Thanks!

i dont know, i have only ever heard two recordings. I have one programmed on my digital piano which sounds a bit lifeless and dead so i'd say that the better one is on the abrsm grade 8 piano exam pieces (2nd cd), as its the only other one ive heard. its a live recording so that should be ok.

The one on the grade 8 CD is a bit fast I think.
My teacher and I have (different) recordings by Gordon Ferus Thompson which we both prefer. He takes just about a minute longer to play than the exam recording.

I am doing mine about the speed of the recording on this CD..... maybe just a bit slower and held back a bit more, but not by much.

Thanks for your comments!
I have one recording anyway...don't know who it is though....I'll have a look and report back!! But anyway, I think it's a bit fast and the performer seems to do EVERYTHING that my piano teacher has told me not to do! the fortissimo isn't that great either at the risoluto section at the top of the 4th page (Well, on my copy anyway!) - I mean, it's the only properly loud bit in the whole piece! And my teacher told me not to rush over the main theme and this person is!

I have it programmed into my digital piano too, crazy_purple_piano_freak! I see what you mean about it being dead! I think my performance would sound more alive if I had a real piano with real live harmonics but.... we don't have 5K to spare... sad.gif ...but i live in hope!! laugh.gif
