From what I've seen the exam pieces arent as easy as the previous exam pieces ive encountered.

It depends on what you choose. Some are more difficult than others

do they mark it differently? like if you are playing a piece thats of easier grade 8 level than if its really really hard?
e.g. scarlatti sonata, A3 compared to bach prelude and fugue...
