Thanks.
I felt that theory more difficult.
Some people felt that practical more difficult but some people don't.And,
how about you?

A lot of people seem to find theory more difficult. I can't really say, because I was never doing the same grade of theory and practical at the same time. I think the thing with practical is that it seems so all-or-nothing - in the exam you only get one chance at each piece, whereas with the theory if you make a mistake you can just rub it out and correct it!

I definatley find practical more difficult !
In the practical, you are soooo nervous and worried about making mistakes.
With theory, you may still be nervous but not like with practical! There isn't anybody there to watch everything u write and you can correct it if you do it wrong!

I find theory way more difficult, probably because i get bored with it too easily. I find it really difficult to learn allt he rules and stuff, it's like learning a new language. Am I the only one that thinks this?

Hi, Yvonne
i find practical's more difficult. theory - i can do as it's a matter of rules and format . . . organization and memorization is what i'm strong in.

I find practicals more difficult, because it takes much much longer to prepare well for a practical exam than for theory. A practical includes more different things (aurals, sight-reading) and one mustn't forget nerves etc.

I find practicals way more difficult, so much depends on how ur feeling on the day and what examiner u get. I always get really nervous and then make stupid mistakes on the pieces. Theory tests are much easier, everything's either right or wrong so u know wher u stand and u get 2 hours (at least at grade 5) to do the exam which is really 2 much time.

Theory because it's boring so I don't work at it, which makes it hard...

I find practial exams more difficult as you only get that one shot to do best whereas with a theory exam you have a bit more time to actually think about what you have to do & if you make a mistake you can correct yourself.
The voting seems to be about 50/50 at the moment!

I think they can both be difficult, but in different ways; not sure you can really compare them. They both require different kinds of work.

It also depends if you mean exams or just general application.

I think theory... because I find it so much more boring and I keep repeating certain mistakes!... but I think it depends.

I reckon practical is hardest...thoery is quite easy, its just a matter of sitting down and understanding the basics for the grade you are doing, but practical is based on your own personal ability (and it is really easy to make mistakes!)

Theory's easier for me, but then I've always been more of an academic than an artist...

Either can be difficult...theory is very challenging towards the end. However, practical requires more of...performing "on the spot". Theory just requires memorizing the content and applying it. Practical is much more nerve-racking...not to mention all the technique.

I would definately say theory. It's just getting all the rules right rather than just playing it.

Theory is so confusing, but loads of my friends find it easy. I think maybe some people take to it more than others.... lucky them!

I find theory easier because I'm quite academic.
