i am having real trouble coming up with peices for piano myself. I try and just sit there, lay my hands on the keys and play what feels natural, but the tune doesnt sound of anything. Sounds more like a baby bouncing up and down happily on the keys rather than any sort of tune.
Also, did anyone see the Beethoven programme on BBC2 on fri? i thought it was great. I love the actor who plays him. And because of this programme and my newly found love of beethoven, i would lke to produce dramatic music like him, (which ties in with me first messgae)
any ideas, opinions or thoughts?

The Beethoven programmes are very very interesting; can't wait for the final episode!

I taped the last episode and watched it earlier. I'm enjoying them!

They make Beethoven look like a right moody *insert appropriate word here!* lol They are good though!

Maybe you could have a look at some of Einaudi's music - a lot of it is definitely imrovisatory in nature. If you aren't already, I would familiarise yourself with all the major and minor chords in their various inversions - look at Beethoven's "Moonlight" RH!! for broken chords and the opening of the "Appassionata" for use of arpeggios and blocked chords! Starting with a single broken chord (doubling up the lowest note as the LH bass note), then changing one note of the chord at a time to make a new chord can produce stuff that sounds quite like some of Einaudi's stuff. The main thing is to start from something familiar and experiment with that first. Good luck!

Maybe try working thorugh a keyboard harmony book to get to know some standard chord progressions to work with.
If you improvise over a set chord structure it sholud hold together. You can branch out as you learn what sounds good and what doesn't work.
