It seems quite a few people are doing/have done this piece. I'm trying to polish it phrase-by-phrase, but finding the speed still trips me up. I can play it at the marked 120 speed now, and I think my interpretation is pretty good, but the cd version still knocks the socks off it tempo-wise.

Hardest part seems to be keeping both hands even on those repeated bars with all the semiquavers in the left (you know - the first 4 bars, then it comes back at the bottom of page 1, bottom of page 2, top of page 3, bottom of page 3 and bottom of page 4 - basically there's no getting away from the pesky thing!! dry.gif )

How are others finding it? Or, if you learned it before, were you happy with what you achieved eventually? Can anybody play it as fast as the cd (seems to be about 140+)?

I tried researching it a bit with google to find possible comments on interpretations, or other recordings - but came up empty (that is, after wading through several useless pages I gave up).

Regards,

Fred

I can nowhere near play it at the speed of the CD!

No I wasn't and still not. I'm not very good at fast pieces, and I found it difficult to keep it steady and hands together. One hand always seemed to run away with things.

Hi Fred,

I am doing the Dussek, and am going ok with it now. I had trouble with the third page, but have practised it religiously and now I can play the whole thing through with hardly any mistakes. Am trying to concentrate on putting in dynamics now. I haven't tried to practice it at the speed on the cd, although I am not going to stick to the speed I am playing it, it will be a lot faster for the exam, but not so fast I can't put any expression in, if you know what I mean.

I also have trouble keeping the same speed on the parts you mentioned, maybe I'll get there in the end.
